Which Diet Is Best For
You?
Many health / whole food stores now carry
coconut oil and various other
products, and Walmart grocery stores carry an excellent version of coconut milk
at a competitive price (Thai Kitchen brand, see below). There are many sources
online for purchasing coconut oil, coconut milk, and unsweetened grated coconut,
some of which are listed below. Several authors are well recognized for their
insights re: the healing powers of coconut products as well as the use of the
oil as a safer and superior oil for healthy cooking, and links to their books
and articles are listed too. Good recipes can be found online as well as in many
of the books about this fruit, and arguments / healing perspectives can be
considered by following the links also. Other info online is abundant, but these
are good starting points - Rowena and I collect coconut foods links, so here is
a good start on those we favor! For even more GG posts about coconut
products, GG members can search the archives. Happy reading!

Cooking with Coconut Flour: A Delicious Low-Carb, Gluten-Free Alternative to Wheat
by
Bruce Fife
Do you love breads, cakes, pies, cookies,
and other wheat products but can't eat them because you are allergic to
wheat or sensitive to gluten? Perhaps you avoid wheat because you are
concerned about your weight and need to cut down on carbohydrates. If so,
the solution for you is coconut flour. Coconut flour is a delicious, healthy
alternative to wheat. It is high in fiber, low in digestible carbohydrate,
and a good source of protein. It contains no gluten so it is ideal for those
with celiac disease. |

Coconut Lover's Cookbook
If you like coconut, you will love this
book. It's written for coconut lovers as well as for the growing number of
health conscious individuals who recognize coconut as a marvelous health
food. This book contains nearly 450 recipes with a mixture of both
vegetarian and nonvegetarian dishes to choose from. Concerned about sugar?
No problem. Every sweet or dessert recipe includes a low sugar version.
These recipes use very little sugar or none at all.
Coconut is ideal for low-carbohydrate diets because it contains very little
effective (i.e., digestible) carbohydrate. It consists primarily of
indigestible fiber and, therefore, is a healthy and tasty low-carbohydrate,
high-fiber food. The milk, cream, and oil are also low in carbohydrate and
give foods a rich creamy taste and texture that is both healthy and
delicious.

Saturated Fat May Save Your Life
By Bruce Fife
Vegetable oils, often touted as healthy
alternatives to saturated fat are actually a nutritionist's nightmare. Since
their introduction into the human food supply several decades ago, disease
rates have skyrocketed. Saturated fat and cholesterol consumption has
remained relatively constant, but vegetable oil consumption has increased
many fold. Our disease rate has followed right along. |

The Coconut Oil
Miracle, book by Bruce Fife
(published several coconut books, well respected author and specialist in this
area)
Mary Enig, author and science researcher specializing in fats & oils for health,
wrote several recently published books on this topic and strongly advocates the
inclusion of coconut products in the healthy diet. Good start: her book: Know

Know Your Fats : The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils and Cholesterol
By Mary Enig.
Dr. Enig has authored numerous journal
publications, mainly on fats and oils research and nutrient/drug
interactions, and is a well-known invited lecturer at scientific meetings
and a popular interviewee on TV and radio shows about nutrition. She was an
early and articulate critic of the use of trans fatty acids and advocated
their inclusion in nutritional labeling; the scientific mainstream is now
challenging the food product industry's use of trans-containing partially
hydrogenated vegetable oils. |

The Coconut Diet : The Secret Ingredient That Helps You Lose Weight While You Eat Your Favorite Foods
By Cherie Calbom
with John Calbom
Following the success of The Ultimate Smoothie Book,
Cherie Calbom offers this diet based on groundbreaking research that proves
coconut oil promotes weight loss. Low-carb diets like Atkins and South Beach are
the hottest weight loss programs on the market, but they could work faster and
more effectively with the addition of one ingredient: coconut oil. Not only does
it boost metabolism and speed weight loss, there is evidence that suggests that
adding a small amount of coconut oil into ones daily diet can help lower
cholesterol; improve conditions such as diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, IBS,
Crohns, and other digestive disorders; enhance thyroid production; and increase
overall energy.

Eat Fat, Lose Fat: Lose Weight And Feel Great With The Delicious, Science-based Coconut Diet
By Dr Mary Enig & Sally Fallon
In this new addition to the fast-fix diet
book shelf, Enig and Fallon attempt to correct what they see as Americans' false
belief that tropical fats and oils (such as coconut and palm) are unhealthy,
asserting that those fats (and coconut, especially) are beneficial saturated
fats that should be more heavily incorporated into our diets. Enig, a biochemist
and nutritionist, along with Fallon, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation
(a non-profit dedicated to helping people implement healthy approaches to
nutrition), say "high-fat, low-carb really works," eschewing the disastrous
effects a high-fat diet can have on a person's heart. They like the Atkins diet,
but say it doesn't take advantage of the "metabolism-boosting" powers of coconut
oil.

Eat Fat Look Thin: A Safe and Natural Way to Lose Weight Permanently
By Bruce Fife
his book exposes many common myths and misconceptions about
fats. It reveals new, cutting-edge research on the world’s only natural,
low-calorie fat-a fat that not only has fewer calories than any other fat,
but one which also stimulates metabolism and burns up calories. Yes, you can
lose weight by eating fat, if you use the right kind. Combined with a
sensible eating plan, you can shed excess weight, enjoy the foods you love,
and gain better health. |

Coconut Oil: For Health and Beauty
by Cynthia Holzapfel, Laura Holzapfel
This book makes a convincing case that coconut oil and
coconut milk are as good for one's health as they are delicious!
|
 |
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Coconut oil is best obtained from oil cold pressed fresh at source rather than
oil made from copra and subjected to all sorts of chemical processes!

Fibromyalgia,
Chronic Fatigue & Irritable Bowel: Treating Symptoms Treating Cause
By Dr Gregory K. Penniston
(The re-titled new edition to
The Guaifenesin Guide)
A unique book that gives sufferers and their
families clear explanations and practical information on every type of treatment
for these distressing and hard to manage disorders. It dispels the
misconceptions, that lead some people to dismiss these conditions, with
thoughtful explanations and reasoning. This book gives emphasis to eliminating
the conditions by addressing their 'cause', with a commonly used
'over-the-counter' medication, guaifenesin and provides detailed, easy-to-follow
guidelines.
Examining Guaifenesin

Parting the Fog: The Personal Side of Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
By Sue Jones, a GG Member
Parting the Fog" is a candid,
first person account of what it is like to walk in the shoes of someone
suffering from fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome. It relays the
seriousness of this condition in an easy-to-read manner, while employing
humor and focusing on hope.

Crack Up at the Wake of Dawn: Everyday Poetry to Incite and Delight Your
Soul
Another great Book from our GG Member Sue Jones!
If you are a fan of "Parting the Fog", you won't
want to miss this book. Although it isn't specific to fibro, you WILL find
chapters you can closely relate to, since many topics are dealt with. Some
of the poems may make you cry, others make you laugh, and still others
trigger a thought or give you greater insight. Whichever the case, you won't
be left unaffected.

Take My Hand: The Extraordinary Story of a Girl Named Janis
In Take My Hand, Audrey Revell (a
long time member of GG) paints a vivid and moving picture of the life and
indomitable spirit of her daughter Janis, an exceptionally talented musician and
composer despite having lost her sight as a child together with progressive
hearing loss.
