We suggest that only the toothpastes in the listing below be used due to the difficulty of getting accurate information and because, unfortunately, toothpaste manufacturers do not have to tell us what is in toothpaste.  No toothpaste can be completely trusted.  All we can go by is what we have been told on the label and verbally and those below have been verified at the time they went on the list.  Mint could be added at any time, disguised by bubble gum flavors or any other.

In general blue-green or plain green color are usually too high in mints but those listed below are exceptions.   Not everyone will be blocked or slowed just some.  One can dip brushes into baking soda for added effect of whitening and cleansing; sprinkling it on the toothpaste might be a better idea. The kid's toothpastes already have fluoride. Though there may be a trace of mint in *some* of these children's toothpastes, it is only a trace, we have no reports of blocking.  Since they are children's toothpastes they also have no added salicylates, which combined with more mint, is the double-whammy of the adult ones.

You can also brush with plain Bi-carb if you wish. Some people use *properly diluted* Bi-carb, Hydrogen Peroxide or Oxygenated water to rinse mouth.  Members have reported various reactions from their dentists about the Hydrogen Peroxide and/or Baking Soda options; some 'bad idea' some 'good' and 'great idea'. 

Please speak to your own dentist and perhaps read the GG archives for past discussions on it, before making up your own mind about these options.

Fruit flavors are *Low-Sal and in such small amounts they do not block, whereas Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) natural or artificial is methylsalicylate.  Wintergreen synonyms: Teaberry; Boxberry; Mountain Tea; Checkerberry; Th?du Canada; Aromatic Wintergreen; Partridge Berry; Deerberry.   Peppermint and  Spearmint oils also have a very high Salicylate content.  See also Piperitone  to decide if you wish to avoid it also.

Colgate began stating that all their products contain "mint derivatives". A bit of mint may not totally block everyone but it is likely to slow one's recovery.   If anyone discovers that this changes at any time please let us know.

The toothpastes below are considered *Sal-Free or *Sal-Neg either because they don't contain any salicylates or only contain 'negligible' amounts of (measured) salicylates.  Some people report blocking on toothpastes which contain ANY salicylates at all.

June 12, 2007: The new contact at Tom's of Maine has replied that they do not give out the level of salicylates.  Because of this I will be unable to add any new toothpastes to the list above.  Please let me know if the packaging changes on any of your favourite toothpastes so I can check to see if the formulations have changed also.
