Not a member yet? There are 2 ways to join Guai-Support & 2 ways to manage your account (including signing off & setting NOMail). Web access at the GG archives interface or via e-mail commands. If you wish to join, leave or manage your account during the archive downtime, you can do so via e-mail commands instead. Some people prefer the e-mail option anyway as it can be formulated so that admin can track the status of your commands if you are having difficulties.
There are no reported difficulties involved with the 3 following most used links, which are in a quick e-mail method.
(An alternate option to
unsubscribing is to set NOMail to retain access to
archives and post/reply to messages but not receive mail into your mail box -
see directions below) If your email program doesn't open automatically when clicking on the above links, you can follow the directions below for email or web interface. ------------------------------------------------------------

Troubleshooting Subscriber Issues
Directions For Setting Account Options Via Web Interface Click here to Join Guai-Support (Once you've clicked on this link you will be able to do all the above. Members will also be able to link to other pages (see top left of page) such as the Guai-support Group archives interface, where members can check previous discussions & read their mail after setting NOMail. You can also link to Subscriber's Corner where you can see all the lists you are subscribed to, or all the public lists on the server. The archives site is closed daily for Maintenance at midnight USA EST for approximately 45 minutes.)
Check the options that suit you, i.e., digest, regular mail and choose your topics. Subscribers are set to all the topics by default. You can opt out of any topic by following the link in the posting guide. When you've checked all the options you want, check 'Join the List'..
Confirmation: To confirm your identity and prevent third parties from subscribing you to the list against your will, an e-mail message with a confirmation code will be sent to the address you specify in the form. Simply wait for this message to arrive, then follow the instructions to confirm the operation.
Members Changing Options: If you have a listserv password you can click on highlighted portion of:
If mail on the list is too heavy:
Also, you must access them from the address you are signed to the list under. Ditto for signing off and changing options.
Check one of the digest versions boxes (html doesn't work for everyone), then click on the "Update options" button (this delivers only one mail message daily into your mail box, which contains all the messages for that day).
You can read at the archives via searches for specific interest or you can
choose to read a particular week's messages and sort them into a preferred
order, i.e. by 'author', 'posted date', 'topic', 'chronological order' or 'most
recent first'. (which is built according to the RFC for HTML Digests). You may also have an e-mail program that doesn't support HTML Digests. Unfortunately it takes trial and error to figure out which form of digest works best for you. The HTML MIME digest works well however.
You could attempt these fixes if it isn't working for you;
NOMail (& read the archives at your leisure. This will retain your ability to access & read mail in the archives as well as send and reply to list mail without receiving mail into your mail box). Check the box "Mail delivery disabled temporarily" (under the Miscellaneous heading), then click on the "Update options" button
Add or Remove Topics Scroll down to the topics heading and check or un-check your choices, then click on the "Update options" button. To Leave Guai-Support Click on the box "Leave the list"
No need to sign off & sign on again to change name or address: To change your name simply insert your new name in the space provided and LISTSERV will make the change. To change your address simply insert your new address in the space provided and LISTSERV will make the change (this will retain your current settings).
Query Your Account
Query all aspects of your account at the archives
interface by inserting your name or e-mail address. If you don't remember
your e-mail address try inserting all those you normally use or which you've used
in the past. If you still can't find the e-mail address you are subscribed
under please
e-mail our posting mentor. Outline
your problem to her, give her the name you signed up under and she will
do her best to find your e-mail account. Click here for a helpful archives document which includes a 'how to' register password.
******************************* Directions for Setting Account Options Via E-mail All the e-mail commands below should be addressed to:
Leave the subject lines blank or
add something meaningful to you.
(copy/paste
commands to ensure they are exact). Do not put part of a command on one
line and the rest on another. You can put as many commands in one
email to the LISTSERV as you wish so long as they are all complete
commands and line up at the left margin, down the page, one after another. If your subscription seems to not to be progressing, send another after turning off auto signatures and don't say 'thank you' or anything else in the body of the e-mail.
The use of upper case here is just
to define the commands and settings in the examples but not necessary for you to
use either in common settings sent
to listserv or in subject lines when
you post messages to the list. Difficulties: If you have any difficulties with commands being activated please Insert our posting mentor's e-mail address, i.e., wendy.howard@gmail.com into the CC field of your subsequent attempts. Do not do this when setting passwords.
SUB GUAI-SUPPORT Yourfirstname Yourlastname
To temporarily stop all e-mail while on vacations or needing a rest from mail etc. Please set yourself to "NOMail" if/before you invoke your auto reply feature. Letting people know that you are "out of the office" or will not be responding to e-mail messages is great, however, when every message sent to you sends your "auto reply" message back to the list, that creates a problem. SET GUAI-SUPPORT NOMail
Note: Due to network delays, you may still receive mail after you have sent
commands because mail that has been queued to be sent to you may not have
reached you yet. To begin receiving mail again SET GUAI-SUPPORT MAIL
(causes the subscriber to receive one posting per digest cycle [typically daily]
rather than individual messages as they are processed by ListServ). Subscribers cannot restrict which topics they receive in DIGest mode.
To stop digest and receive individual e-mails again You will be able to reset your topic preferences. SET GUAI-SUPPORT NODIGest
To receive just the index of e-mails
This invokes on e-mail message per digest
cycle containing only an index of subject topics for all messages during that
cycle
To turn off index and receive individual e-mails again SET GUAI-SUPPORT NOINDex
Set topics to your preference You can add or delete topics - Use plus (+) and minus (-) signs. Please be careful to PUT SPACES WHERE THEY BELONG in commands i.e.: a space after each TKW but none after the symbols and before the TKW. Use the topic setting examples here as templates.
Topicname must be replaced with the actual
topic keyword. To leave GUAI-SUPPORT permanently
You *must* SIGNOFF from the same address you subscribed with.
To check your subscription settings
QUERY GUAI-SUPPORT If you don't remember your e-mail address try inserting all those you normally use or which you've used in the past. If you still can't find the e-mail address you are subscribed under please e-mail our posting mentor. Outline your problem to her, give her the name you signed up under and she will do her best to find your e-mail account.
This form of the CHANGE command is sent from the old address by any subscriber and results in a cookie being sent to the new address. This cookie MUST be confirmed by the new address, exactly as it was entered, or the command will fail. Note that this assumes that the user still has login access to both addresses, or at least the ability to send mail from the old address.
CHANGE GUAI-SUPPORT NEWADDRESS (replace newaddress with YOUR new address)
You will receive a confirmation request to your new address. Follow it's instructions. This will retain your settings.
If you're unable to write from your old email address subscribe from your new address. You will have to re-set your preferred settings again and then e-mail wendy.howard@gmail.com so your old address can be deleted.

SET ARCHIVES PASSWORD VIA E-MAIL COMMAND
To set a new password, or change an existing password, so you can access the archives: PW REP YOURPASSWORD (where "YOURPASSWORD" is the word of your choice, at least six alpha and/or numeric characters long.)
You will get two automatic responses to this email. One will echo the subject line you used (if any), and in the body will say: For security reasons, you will now be required to confirm the execution of your command. Instructions are being sent to you under separate cover. This step is necessary to prevent malicious users from registering a password in your name. You do not need to do anything in response to this email. The other will have a subject line containing "Command confirmation request..." and this one does require a response. The easiest & most reliable, way to respond to this is to click on the "Reply" button, type OK at the beginning of the first line in the body of the email, hit your return button on your keyboard and then send.
We've
been noticing an increase in the use of rigorous anti-spam programs, in which
emails sent to the user of the program must confirm/verify their validity (by a
simple response) before the email is delivered to its destination. This is
perfectly fine for anyone to choose to use. This is the address to contact both Wendy and Tesa: GUAI-SUPPORT-request@COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM

TROUBLESHOOTING SUBSCRIBER ISSUES
Troubleshooting 1. Query your subscription by sending an email to:
LISTSERV@COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM If your message to the list returns a message stating 'you are not authorized to send mail from your <whateveraddyyousentitfrom@whichdomain.com> addy' please query other addresses you may be subscribed under. You can line any number up under each other in the one e-mail to server. You can also query at the archives interface as per above.
If you find yourself no longer receiving messages you might have been set to nomail or removed from the list due to omitting to set NOMAIL when away and/or leaving an 'away from office' type auto response.
2. If your subscriptions seems in order:
THANKS
You should get 2 separate responses back. YOU'RE WELCOME to the first and information regarding Guai-Support to the 2nd. NOT getting a response from the 2nd command (i.e., INFO GUAI-SUPPORT) always means the problem is with the member's service and is a strong indication of SPAM blocking technology. If you get 2 responses consistently, then it is probably not a blocking problem. Give the server at least a half hour to respond in case things are moving slowly. 3. If it looks as though the LISTSERV may be down, i.e. you are not receiving list mail but you are receiving other mail, do not take a chance on clogging the system by sending "Where is everyone?" or "Is the system down?" messages through the lists. Instead send the command:
THANK YOU If the system is up, you should get the polite response: YOU'RE WELCOME It also indicates how slow/fast the system is working. If the system is down, you'll get no response. Please wait patiently for mail to resume. As per above, if you are not receiving other mail it can also indicate that your own ISP is down or that the free email service you are using has a problem with mailing list configuration. You can talk to your ISP and see if you can sort out the problem. 4. If you think your mail isn't making it to the list:
These days, some web-based email
services (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo & there are sure to be others following soon) do
not forward a copy of your own post to you when you post, regardless of the
settings you may have at the list.
(If you want to know more
about this or other settings, please go to the
L-Soft Subscriber's Manual
and go straight to page 19.)
5. If your e-mail to the List receives a rejection notice:
6. Some of the free email programs are problematic If you're having issues with whatever one you're using perhaps you could try these free email services which were recommended to me. I have no personal experience with them however but they might be worth a trial:
Gmail,
Yahoo,
Hotmail,
and
AIM
are free web-based email services. All provide free Instant Messaging
services, and provide a POP service which allows emails to be downloaded to
your own computer if you wish (but not all offer this for free). IncrediMail Xe build 934 popular 7. Please follow good virus protection rules: Don't open e-mail attachments. Use virus protection programs with e-mail scanning or use one of the free virus scanning sites. Please don't send virus reports to the mailing list, or write that you've just received a virus. Check them out at some of the sites listed in our virus info page first. If they are legitimate and you are concerned please send Wendy the name of the virus and, when deemed necessary, she will send appropriate reports to the GG list. Wendy has created the virus help page on this web site

A ListServ feature called 'Probe' has been implemented. You will receive
the 'probe' message (every 93 days). It doubles as a List Guide providing information you
may appreciate.
