Disclaimer

The data bases related to salicylates on this site are not exhaustive, i.e. the absence of an ingredient from the Sal-FreeTM Ingredient list does not indicate whether it is or is not a salicylate.  It's not possible to list all ingredients.  The absence of a product from the Sal-FreeTM product lists doesn't mean it contains salicylates.  It's not possible to list all products which are free from salicylates here.

While this data is provided to facilitate informed decision-making, we each take personal responsibility for our own decisions, so must consider carefully before accepting or rejecting a course of action.

We err on the side of caution in our rulings to ensure to the best of our ability that people don't block due to our rulings.  Of course there is no way to be sure in all cases that a mistake has not been made thus people should make further investigation on their own behalf if they think a ruling may be incorrect.

If keen to try a product and prepared to experiment on personal levels of sensitivity to salicylates, read the item beginning "Some non-sensitive Guai'ers..." below.  Please write to Tesa personally if you think an error has been made.

These lists are not comprehensive nor foolproof albeit much care is taken that no product is added to the Sal-FreeTM lists without us sighting the ingredients, either on a web site or from a submission.   However, caution must be used.  Product ingredients must be rechecked when in hand to ensure the manufacture hasn't reformulated the product ingredients, or the on-line retailer hasn't neglected to change ingredient listings.

The Guai-Support product lists exist simply to narrow the field in your shopping excursions.  It improves your prospects of finding an item faster with less shopping around.
 Use it to guide you to products which were Sal-FreeTM when added to the list but please check the labels again for salicylates each time you purchase (see Sal-Search* Tips).

You can return products for a refund or exchange if not opened and if you were given wrong information by sales staff you can also request an exchange on those grounds if they are opened/used;

You can browse a manufacturer's  range on their web site in the comfort of your own home.  However, don't forget, if you purchase a product based on the information that you find on a site, you still have to check that the formula is the same on the product that you actually purchase.  Web sites are not always up-to-date, so make use of the information available, but beware of the pitfalls!  If you order on-line always check your package & the insert; don't assume it is OK because the web site ingredients were.

Please follow the directions at this link to let me know if you find a product listed on GG as Sal-FreeTM which contains salicylate ingredients.

Store 'Knock-off versions of products on this list have not been checked for salicylate content unless specified.

Some non-sensitive Guai'ers actually want to experiment with the odd product containing controversial ingredients, usually (but not necessarily) short term, in order to address a specific health issue, generally broaden their options, or to make their lives a little less restricted.  Our goal is to list the status of ingredients correctly (not allowing contamination to impinge on the chemical compound status), putting the power in the user's hands and enabling informed decision-making.  If we have specific information related to contamination that will be listed also.  Keep in mind that any OTC product, where it is not specifically stated that it is pharmacologically pure, may be contaminated from the source, which in turn MAY contain salicylates.  Salicylates are made in all plants to fend off soil bacteria and pests (reference "Science" [VOL. 266 e November 18, 1994 issue]).

In a few cases chemical ingredients may be impure due to contamination from their salicylate source during processing, or processing in machinery which has used a salicylate in previous runs.  Some are listed in the Sal-FreeTM Ingredient list but others are listed in the Sal-Unsure* category and others that we are sure block are listed in the Sal-Full* Products list.  If you don't progress at the expected average rate in your reversal, then it is best you do a blocking test while using such a product.

We base our status labelling on the chemical structure of the named ingredient.  We then add any notes regarding contamination issues and blocking reports to ensure that you have the best information to enhance your decision making process.  You will need to take your specific needs into account e.g., are you taking it for:

  • a limited time for a specific acute health issue;

  • an ongoing health issue;

  • the necessity of the item to your health.

If it is just for a limited time the risk of blocking is short term and most times worth it.  If your need for the product is more long term, you should consider investigating the source of suspect ingredients.  If your progress seems slowed subsequent to introducing a product containing low levels of salicylates, or one with questionable salicylate status, it is advised you do a blocking test and eliminate it if you cannot be certain it is ok.  Ask members on the mailing list for help to find a substitute if needed.

IF you see any inconsistencies see or purchase a product listed which has been reformulated to contain a salicylate or discover a product is discontinued I would very much appreciate if you would click here and insert the exact name(s) of the product, all the ingredients (pointing out the new one), date purchased and what country you are in and send it to me (see also submit products).  Thank you in advance.
