Posting Guide for the Guai-Support Mailing List
  Revised June 6, 2009

The list is known as the GG (Guai Group) thus the logo [GG] (since abbreviations omit hyphenated words) & the subscribers known endearingly as Guais.  (Note 2002: Not to be confused with the 'newer/younger' group who elected to utilize this name.)

Our group is operated as a Safe Haven and we discuss any rendition of the guaifenesin protocol for FMS and, due to it being a topic list, other theories and treatments also.  Helping each individual is of paramount importance to us.

Mission Statement - Network Disclaimer - Description/History/Philosophy - Membership Welcome

Contents

1.  Admin Assistance

2.  Address field

3.  Subject Line (Topic & Subject keywords)

4.  Space & Clarity

5.  Conduct & Privacy (Including No advertising)

6.  Moderation

7.  Archives (you can read, send new messages & reply to messages from the archives)

8.  Subscription Help (Joining, Leaving, Mailing Options, Topic choices, Troubleshooting, etc.)

1.  Admin Assistance

Click here to email Wendy for help with posting and other admin issues
This will open some e-mailer programs automatically. For those that don't, post your questions to: wendy.howard@gmail.com

2.  Address field

Address your message to: GUAI-SUPPORT@COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM

When you want to respond to the list membership choose REPLY.

When you want to respond only to the author of the message, choose REPLY ALL and delete the list address from the To: or Cc: field.

(Please only send replies to the list by using REPLY, and not FORWARD. Forwarding renders your topic keyword ineffective, relocates it to OTHER, and will break the connections of the thread in the archives)

3.  Subject Line

This is where you outline & Define the content of your message.  It's an opportunity to ensure that your message reaches and is read by the most interested parties, e.g., those following the guai protocol who are not interested in debate about it or other theories regarding what causes FMS, CFS, etc., or other treatments or, alternatively, those only interested in other causes and treatments, etc.

Topic Keywords: There are 3 topics and they are set as default, i.e., GUAI, OTHER & Admin.

(Setting & Restricting Topics you wish to receive - Different from setting in the subject line of your message.
(It is much simpler if done at the archives interface.)

You have to opt out if you don't want one of the topics.  However, the digest includes all topics and cannot be changed.  If you are set to receive mail, it would best serve you to keep ADMIN set.

Click here to set topics via web interface.
Scroll down to the topics heading and check or un-check your choices then click on the "Update options" button.)

Inserting topics in the subject line of your message to the list

GUAI: your own subject keywords defining the content of your message

OTHER: your own subject keywords defining the content of your message

Only administrators may insert (send) ADMIN in the topic line.  As it states, administrative matters will go via this topic but occasionally other issues we deem important may also arrive under this topic.  Please do not reply to the ADMIN topic.  You may reply privately to the administrators (Wendy & Tesa - mailto:GUAI-SUPPORT-request@COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM ) or there will be a direction noted in the admin letter telling you what subject line to use for replies.

GUAI is the ONLY topic keyword that you need to insert when writing a message to the list (if you want to direct your message to that topic).

If your message is related to GUAI, insert the topic keyword (TKW) GUAI at the beginning of your subject line and follow it with a colon, e.g.,

GUAI: Your Subject Keywords

If the TKW is not in the format above (TKW followed by a colon), your mail will be relocated to OTHER automatically.  Those who have opted out of receiving the OTHER topic will not see the message.

All discussion specifically related to the guaifenesin protocol can be sent to the GUAI topic so that those who are only interested in the protocol are not subjected to other discussions. This topic is not a debate topic (see FMS topic for debate). It is a support topic only. It will include all salicylate queries, requests for product information and suggestions, updates on any product ingredients, etc., doctors & mappers/mapping, etc.

The OTHER topic can be left unlabeled, if you wish, except of course, for the addition of your own descriptive subject keywords defining the content of your message.

OTHER: Your Subject Keywords

Questions and requests for information about FMS, what FMS may actually be, theories of causes & treatments (debate allowed as long as it respects the Safe Haven principle), hypoglycemia, insulin resistance, Syndrome X, Diabetes, Diabetes Type 11/Adult Onset Diabetes, etc.), personal experience re treatment, support & exchange of recipes & ideas, exercise, pensions & health insurance, etc.

Subject KeyWords: Please insert 'Subject KeyWords' (SKW's) relevant to your message on original messages and change them in replies if you're changing the discussion.

Spiritual, Alternate or Complimentary healing theories and message of support or requests/offers for any type of energy healing etc., are acceptable and should go to the list without a topic keyword.  However it is always appropriate to label your message clearly so that members disinterested of any particular discussions can opt out by deleting that message/thread.

Meditation: Your Descriptive SKW

Reiki: Your Descriptive SKW

Gupta: Your Descriptive SKW

EFT: Your Descriptive SKW

No discussion of politics or religion under any topic.

4.  Space & Clarity

Plain Text: Please set plain text for messages to the list, i.e., charset="US-ASCII"

(No charset="iso-8859-1).
Click here for help to set plain US-ASCII on your system

Quoting: Quoting in email vernacular refers to the practice of leaving the previous message, in whole or part, attached to your response.

Although lack of adequate quoting can be confusing to the reader, so can too much.

We prefer that you remove the previous message before sending your response to the list but be sure to do that after you've selected the parts you are going to use as a quote (reference).

It IS good to be brief, but it's also necessary to provide a context so we can understand.  Make your reply relevant to the quote (reference) you insert.

Although it is often best to delete the previous message you are replying to and simply include a quote/reference from it above your own response, it sometimes makes sense of a complex issue if you intersperse your response(s) within the text of the previous message.

Include blank lines, especially if the discussion is complex. Long paragraphs are hard to follow.

Post a brief outline and link rather than copy/pasting
whole pages from a web site.

The above formats contribute to making the digests cleaner and more readable as well.

Members can go to the archives to remind themselves of the history of a particular thread/discussion.

Click here for some abbreviations you may find useful

5.  Conduct & Privacy (sorry, but these 'do nots' are deemed necessary).

 Please....

  • do not respond to the member with any corrections, reprimands or complaints.  Consider the potential for misinterpretation. Please Click here to address all complaints to me (and send along all relevant data/messages).

  • do not respond to members in an inflammatory manner(e.g. caution, reprimand or correct other members, or make public judgments on other members comments, views, writing style, spelling errors, or their personal choices, including the choice NOT to follow the Guaifenesin Protocol, either in a particular way, or at all.  Members of our group should not to be embarrassed by their peers as the aim of this forum is to provide a Safe Haven)

  • do not discuss politics or religion.  Keep in mind that all messages must be suitable for an International list dedicated to supporting people who are usually coming together for one purpose only and that is to seek information and support to help them heal.  Many members have other things in common, including religion and they can communicate with each other privately.  In fact it is my profound desire that each of you make friends and gain support outside the list domain

  • do not post attachments, chain letters, virus warnings, requests to sign petitions or any other type of warning SPAM
If in your mind, a message crosses over between the above and a subject members need to know about please contact admin
    (Wendy & Tesa - mailto:GUAI-SUPPORT-request@COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM )

  • do not solicit members to sign petitions or participate in anything outside our mailing list agenda & please seek approval for anything which IS related to our agenda.

  • forward messages, nor refer to them, from GG to other lists/forums without the express permission of the author, which must be stated in your message

  • do not refer to messages made by our members in any other forum without the express permission of the author, which must be stated in your message

  • do not refer to, respond to, or quote someone's private messages to the list without their express permission, which must be stated in your message

  • do not send another person's message to the the GG list for them. If they are not already members, suggest they join.  If they are members, please suggest they request help from our posting mentor, Wendy or ask them if they would like her to write to help them

  • do not forward messages from other lists or people to the GG. Only subscribers to the Guai-Support list may post to it.  If you wish to quote someone from another forum to make a point, please request their permission, be brief and state that they have permitted it in your post to the list

  • send out 'out of office' type responses.  Please set yourself to NOMAIL if you are going to be away.

  • do not advertise.  No are to be sent to the list or privately to our membership including links to your own web site if it is a commercial site.  This includes any information where you might receive a gift or financial reward.

However, although they cannot advertise a product or service per se, advertisers on the GG site may respond to a query or participate in a discussion regarding a product or service they provide or sell.  If they do so, these words must be inserted into their signature:

              'Expression of Interest'

Where this term appears in a signature it denotes that the author is responding to questions, problems or contributing to a discussion that warrants it, about a particular product or service (including mapping) with which they are socially or commercially connected.

This option is not intended to encourage or allow promotion of products or services on the list. They cannot introduce the product/service without any obvious basis.  It is to enlighten members who are seeking a product or service which their product/service 'might' fulfill.

6.  Moderation

New members are automatically set to moderation via the review option.  It is temporary.  It is an opportunity for us to help you learn to post in a way that serves you and other members best.

While on you will receive an automatic message to tell you your email has been submitted to a moderator, I.E.

"Your message dated .......... with subject ".........." has been submitted to the moderator of the GUAI-SUPPORT list:....etc...."

This is normal and can be ignored.  When the moderator has looked over your message and okays it, it will be sent to everyone who receives the TKW that you put in the Subject line.  If the moderator thinks alterations need to be made, she will send you an email telling you what needs to be done and how to resubmit.  It contains the wording 'RESUBMIT REQUEST' in the subject line.  This is not a "reprimand" from the moderator, but an opportunity to educate.  If you don't understand what is needed simply choose 'reply' and ask for further clarification.  State exactly what it is you don't understand. We are here to help you so we expect these questions.

While on REVIEW there is sometimes a delay before you see your mail on the list.  Your mail is NEVER ignored.  If it doesn't reach the list and you don't receive a personal response from a moderator please let our moderator and posting mentor Wendy know.

7.  Archives

This is a private List and the messages are archived.

Only members can read the archives but anyone can sign on to read them and then sign off again so don't write anything you aren't prepared to let the world at large see.  Don’t utilize the archives for personal gain without the express and written permission of the ListOwner and the author of messages.

Members who post to this list retain their copyright but grant a non-exclusive license to the ListOwner to forward any message posted here and their letters may be quoted on the list by other members . They also grant the list owner permission to maintain an archive (i.e. approve the archiving of list messages) and utilize their messages on the web site to help visitors and members to the site (anonymity will be maintained unless permission is given to use name). Posts entered into the archives will not be removed.

Please see Network Disclaimer.

Other use of e-mail to this list requires the permission of individual writers and the List Owner.

Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue & Irritable Bowel: Treating Symptoms Treating Cause

By Dr Gregory K. Penniston
(The re-titled new edition to
The Guaifenesin Guide)

A unique book that gives sufferers and their families clear explanations and practical information on every type of treatment for these distressing and hard to manage disorders. It dispels the misconceptions, that lead some people to dismiss these conditions, with thoughtful explanations and reasoning. This book gives emphasis to eliminating the conditions by addressing their 'cause', with a commonly used 'over-the-counter' medication, guaifenesin and provides detailed, easy-to-follow guidelines.

Parting the Fog: The Personal Side of Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

By Sue Jones, a GG Member

Parting the Fog" is a candid, first person account of what it is like to walk in the shoes of someone suffering from fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome. It relays the seriousness of this condition in an easy-to-read manner, while employing humor and focusing on hope.

Crack Up at the Wake of Dawn: Everyday Poetry to Incite and Delight Your Soul

Another great Book from our GG Member Sue Jones!  If you are a fan of "Parting the Fog", you won't want to miss this book. Although it isn't specific to fibro, you WILL find chapters you can closely relate to, since many topics are dealt with. Some of the poems may make you cry, others make you laugh, and still others trigger a thought or give you greater insight. Whichever the case, you won't be left unaffected.
