What is a Syndrome?

"In medicine and psychology, the term syndrome refers to the association of several clinically recognizable features, signs (discovered by a physician), symptoms (reported by the patient), phenomena or characteristics that often occur together, so that the presence of one feature alerts the physician to the presence of the others."

Symptom CheckLists

With the Symptom Checklist you can rate your pain levels, fog, eyesight, fatigue, gut, etc on a 1 to 10 scale. You can make a new record every day, or once a week or whatever, and since it's filemaker you can export the data you collect to a spreadsheet and make charts to monitor your progress. (The file requires Filemaker to run.  There isn't any password protection so feel free to modify it to suit your needs.

If you already have Filemaker Pro, please download the first file. If you don't have Filemaker Pro, download either the 2nd or 3rd file, choosing the one appropriate for your platform. These last two files are large and may take 10 to 20 minutes to download on a standard 56K modem.

Reminders for taking meds/supps

(Feedback on any of these very welcome)

Various Pill Timers Example :

The Cadex Medication Reminder Watch
The CADEX Medication Reminder takes the worry out of taking medications, so you can spend your time enjoying the more important things in life.

Wendy's Mum's Tip:

  • Write on the lid of the bottle or packet when, or how many times per day, you have to take the medication (e.g, "x3" or "AM/PM", and so on)

  • Keep them all together in a tray, with your added notes visible

  • Sort them into order of the first medications of the day at the front, working your way towards the rear during the day.

Wendy's Tip:

By preparing a chart in a spreadsheet on the computer, you can save it and make alterations very quickly as needed.

You can print a separate page for each day.

You can see at a glance if something is due or has already been taken, and there is no need to actually remember what time something has been taken to work out when the next dose is due, because it is there in black and white if you need to check.

  • Create a chart that fits onto a single page (Landscape orientation is probably better than Portrait).

  • List all medications down the side, with the dose and the frequency of taking them, one per row.

  • Add columns across the page for all the times you are to take your meds (upon rising, before breakfast, with breakfast, etc), one column per time period.

  • Use border lines to mark all the columns and rows, so they are clear.

  • Shade the boxes for times that you don’t take a particular drug in grey, so that you are left with a white space that matches a drug and time in the day when it is to be taken.

  • When the drug has been dispensed, tick the relevant box, so it can be seen at a glance if something is missing.  Sometimes it is more useful to write the actual time the drug is to be taken, rather than just ticking the box - it all depends on the particular drug and your needs.  For example, pain relief may have be prescribed for four times a day, but if you begin to recover from that particular symptom your need for it may be reduced and you may skip a dose or two; writing the time means you know how long since the last dose if you want more.

Information re Medications  Devin Starlynal: "Often, you may have to try many medications before you find the optimum ones for you. We react differently to each medication, and there is no "cookbook recipe" for FMS or MPS. What works well for one of us can be ineffective for another. A medication which puts one person to sleep may keep another awake. Each of us has our unique combination of neurotransmitter disruption and connective tissue disturbance. We need doctors who are willing to stick with us until an acceptable symptom relief level is reached."

What is your Blood Pressure Target

Tests Explained

http://www.mydr.com.au/default.asp?article=3127

What are the acceptable blood pressure levels?

According to the Heart Foundation of Australia, blood pressure less than 120/80 mmHg can be classified as ‘normal’ and blood pressure between 120/80 and 140/90 mmHg is classified as ‘high-normal’ blood pressure.

According to the Heart Foundation, a person could be defined as having high blood pressure (hypertension) if they have systolic pressure greater than or equal to 140 mmHg and/or diastolic pressure greater than or equal to 90 mmHg and/or are receiving medication for high blood pressure.

Low blood pressure, or hypotension, generally refers to a blood pressure reading below an average of about 120/80 mmHg.

What is low blood pressure, what are causes & How is it treated?

Garlic boosts hydrogen sulfide to relax arteries
Eating garlic is one of the best ways to lower high blood pressure and protect yourself from cardiovascular disease. A new study from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) shows this protective effect is closely linked to how much hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is produced from garlic compounds interacting with red blood cells.

"A new study suggests that people trying to lower their blood pressure should also boost their intake of potassium, which has the opposite effect to sodium."

At-home Allergy pulse test

Issue 8, 2004 Update: Food Allergies/Sensitivities and the Pulse Test:Withdrawal Reaction Mechanisms, Overcoming Resistance, New Pulse Test Tips and Some Other Methods

by J. C. Waterhouse, Ph.D.

At-home short cut pulse test (originated decades ago by dr. Arthur coca) to arrive at a diet that minimizes reactions. The short cut version of the test is a controlled test, which if done correctly, is objective and often gives very strong proof of the reaction:

I wrote out these brief directions for myself which others might find them useful (Tesa):

  • After resting for 5 minutes

  • take your pulse 2 or 3 times to get a baseline

  • place the substance under your tongue

  • take your pulse again after 1 or 2 minutes and then spit the food out.

  • The pulse should not change unless there is a reaction

  • if the pulse increases, the amount of increase indicates the severity of the reaction.

  • If any food raises the resting pulse over 12 beats per minute above your morning resting pulse, that food should be eliminated; you are certainly allergic to it or can't digest that much of it. If your pulse has not returned to its morning resting rate one hour later, you are still having an allergic reaction to the food you ate previously and cannot get a decent result on another food until either your pulse slows again or until the next morning. You may, however, continue to eat other foods that you know do not provoke allergic reactions.

If a food causes no acceleration of pulse (at least 6 beats above your estimated normal maximal) that food can be tentatively labeled non-allergenic.

Interstitial Cystitis Foundation: IC is a symptom which can be worsened by purging phosphates.  It's also made worse by acid foods, coffee, etc.  There is an acid-reducer with clinical effectiveness in countering some acid foods for IC called Prelief (NOT a cure.  Generic: Trimethoprim which is a synthetic antibacterial available in scored, white tablets, each containing 100 mg trimethoprim or 200 mg trimethoprim.  Inactive Ingredients: Corn Starch, Dibasic Calcium Phosphate Dihydrate, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Silicon Dioxide and Sodium Starch Glycolate.
Trimethoprim is 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl) pyrimidine which is *Sal-Free)

There is also a diet which anecdotal reports indicate helps.  The low oxalate diet also apparently helps to some degree.

    Mitral Valve Prolapse & Magnesium
This study concludes that many patients with heavily symptomatic Mitral valve prolapse have low serum magnesium, and supplementation of this ion (magnesium) leads to improvement in most symptoms along with a decrease in catecholamine excretion.

From the Author: "As director of the International Medical Veritas Association I had direct access to many doctors and scientists around the globe and I began questioning and researching. Several doctors including Dr. Garry Gordon state that it is very difficult to bring up the body's levels of magnesium through oral supplementation, and research confirms this. I began to realize that I had found something potentially very important and useful since magnesium has been reported by many reputable organizations to be deficient in over 68% of the population.

I am not going to tell you that it is the only nutritional/medicinal agent that you need to take but I will tell you that it is the first one you need to take and that it will enhance any other medical and dental treatment you will undergo. Personally I will not treat a patient who is not replenishing their magnesium levels for I do not enjoy failing my patients."

Columbia University Researchers Discover On/Off Switch for Chronic Pain
    by Editor - ImmuneSupport.com - 08-08-2006

"Researchers at Columbia University in New York have identified a protein in nerve calls that acts as an “on/off switch for chronic pain.” They’ve applied for patents to develop a new class of drugs that they predict will block chronic pain by turning this switch off.
The “switch” is the enzyme protein kinase G (PKG), which is activated upon injury or inflammation. And, the researchers state, “we are very optimistic that this discovery and our continued research will ultimately lead to a novel approach to pain relief for the millions suffering from chronic pain.”

Scientists have known for years that for chronic pain to persist, “a master switch must be turned on” inside the first order or peripheral nerve cells. These are the neurons that feed from the body to the second order nerve cells in the spinal cord, responsible in turn for relaying pain messages to the brain."

    Fibromyalgia and Meditation
    Friday, December 19, 2008
    By: Daniel Lewis MD
    FMOnline vol. 8, no. 12

"Soon after becoming a physician and rheumatologist in 1983, I developed an interest in many of the different traditional mind-body healing practices such as qigong, tai chi, yoga, breathing techniques, hypnosis, and meditation. Initially, this personal inquiry was separate from my professional work. However, you cannot completely separate your personal life from your professional work, and gradually the nature of my work developed a more holistic orientation. This approach seemed to resonate especially with people who had painful and often difficult-to-categorize conditions such as fibromyalgia."

    "Epigenetics and Meditation
Epigenetics is a word that means “above the genes." Many illnesses, including fibromyalgia, have a genetic predisposition. This means that individuals with a particular genetic make-up are at a greater risk than the general population of developing fibromyalgia. In general, for conditions where there is a known genetic risk, lifestyle and environmental factors can both positively and negatively impact on both the development and progress of these conditions.

The science of epigenetics has demonstrated that environmental factors and lifestyle changes have a profound effect on the emergence or suppression of predisposed illnesses such as fibromyalgia. We now know that genes are not autocratic and we are not "bystanders and victims" of our genes. How we live our lives does make a difference. It is also well known that good nutrition and exercise are among the many important environmental stimuli for healthy living and exert an epigenetic influence. What is less well known is that it is our thoughts and feelings, and hence our perception of life events, that have a most profound and possibly dominant influence on gene expression. This is where meditation exerts its influence.

A regular meditation practice can produce a beneficial shift in the way we think, feel, and respond to everyday life events. Hence it is a powerful and positive epigenetic influence."

We suggest people do not take aspirin or use products that list salicylic acid as an ingredient while they take the kidney tubule remedy (about 2 weeks), or during the first few weeks of the kidney remedy."

    Glutathione Depletion—Methylation Cycle Block Hypothesis:
The Customized Approach developed by: Richard A. Van Konynenburg, Ph.D.
posted by earthwalker on april 10th, 2008

Richard A. Van Konynenburg, Ph.D presented the Glutathione Depletion—Methylation Cycle Block Hypothesis for the pathogenesis of CFS in a poster paper at the 8th international conference of the International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, on January 10-14, 2007. Due to subsequent requests from clinicians for a description of a treatment approach based on this hypothesis, Van Konynenburg came up with a Simple Approach and a more Customized Approach, based on what he perceives to be the most successful treatment approaches currently used in autism, which he believes shares the same basic pathogenetic mechanism with CFS. In most cases, it will be necessary for the physician to use the Customized Approach and tailor the treatment program to the individual patient. Van Konynenburg has since updated his approach and added some cautions. Please note that some people who have tried this approach have had adverse effects, sometimes of a serious nature.

Van Konynenburg believes that the fundamental biochemical issue in a large subset of the CFS patients is that the methylation cycle is blocked. The main goal of this treatment approach is to remove this block and restore the methylation cycle. He also believes that glutathione depletion is directly responsible for many of the features of CFS, but that it is usually not possible to normalize the glutathione levels on a permanent basis by direct approaches of glutathione supplementation. Rather, the methylation cycle block must be corrected first, to break the vicious circle that is holding down the glutathione levels. In addition to this, about one-third of CFS patients, because of particular genetic polymorphisms, cannot tolerate supplementation with glutathione or other substances intended to help them directly to build glutathione.

Based on what is being done in autism by the Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) researchers and clinicians and independently by Dr. Amy Yasko, N.D., Ph.D., he suggests two treatment approaches for CFS. The first is a Simple Approach better suited to patients who have been ill a relatively short time and are not disabled. Use of this simplified approach would be based on the hope that the patient does not have certain genetic polymorphisms, which would not be known in this simplified approach.

If the patient does in fact have these polymorphisms, the simplified approach will not be successful, and the customized program should be followed. This simpler treatment approach is based partly on the treatment that was used by Dr. S. Jill James, Ph.D., et al. in the study that found the connection between the methylation cycle block and glutathione depletion in autism (Ref. 2 in his pathogenesis paper), but it makes use of supplements that are part of Dr. Amy Yasko’s treatment program.

The second treatment approach is much more involved and is based on Dr. Yasko’s complete autism treatment. Van Konynenburg believes that the second approach is the treatment that will be necessary for most CFS patients, especially those who are more debilitated/disabled, as well as those with certain genetic polymorphisms.

    The Iodine Group

How much iodine do we need? What are the best sources? What happens if we don't get enough? Or get too much?

"The Iodine Group is gathering information on iodine in an attempt to understand how iodine affects the body and how iodine can best be used to support total body health.

One of the current controversies in the Iodine field is how much iodine is good for the human body. Some people claim that the RDA is appropriate (about 150 mcg per day), while others claim that much larger amounts are needed and recommend orthoiodosupplementation.

Iodine is essential for the body and is detected in every organ and tissue. It is found in high levels in the thyroid, breast, liver, lung, heart, and adrenals. Iodine is essential in pregnancy.

There is increasing evidence that iodine is related to numerous diseases, including cancer. Various clinicians and researchers have found iodine effective with hypothyroid and hyperthyroid conditions, goiter, fibrocystic breasts, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, brain fog, constipation, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation, and detoxification issues (mercury, perchlorate, fluoride, bromide)."

Drugs That Don't Work and Natural Therapies That Do

Dr. Brownstein will show you new research that gives you detailed information on why the most commonly prescribed drugs may not be the most appropriate choice to treat many common conditions including: GERD, high cholesterol, reflux esophagitis, depression, osteoporosis, inflammation, and hormone imbalances. Furthermore, this book will give you natural and safe alternatives that can help you overcome the above-mentioned illnesses.

    Orthoiodosupplementation.
"Orthoiodosupplementation challenges the traditional view on iodine in many fundamental ways, especially (1) how much iodine is appropriate and necessary, (2) how much is "excess" and potentially toxic, and (3) what are the criteria to determine what is "excess".

    Traditional View.
The traditionalists see the RDA of approximately 150 mcg per day as appropriate and necessary. Amounts above 1 mg (1000 mcg) would be seen as excessive and potentially toxic. And the primary criterion for determining excess would be thyroid function, especially increases in TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, a common blood test used to measure thyroid function).

From this point of view, the traditionalists view most Americans as getting sufficient iodine from their daily diets, and the primary concern is Iodine Toxicity, which requires being careful that people do not consume too much iodine.

    Orthoiodosupplementation View.
In contrast, the Orthoiodosupplementation point of view sees the RDA as too low, with 6.5 - 12.5 mg of iodine seen as necessary for total body health for most people. Amounts of iodine up to 50 mg (and sometimes more) may be necessary for brief periods of time to restore iodine sufficiency."

    Chronic Neurotoxins:

This website  provides information on chronic human illness caused by exposure to toxins produced by living organisms (biotoxins). Many biotoxins are neurotoxins in that they adversely affect neurologic function. Registered users will be able to complete questionnaires on exposure history, medical history and current symptoms. Users can also take a vision screening test that helps determine whether or not their health problems are likely to be caused by biotoxins. Deficits on the vision test, visual contrast sensitivity, have been associated with chronic illness caused by biotoxin exposure (1-8). If the data suggest biotoxin-induced illness, users can obtain a treatment protocol that has been used to successfully treat many people. This paradigm for diagnosing and treating chronic, biotoxin-mediated illness is based on research by Ritchie C. Shoemaker, MD, and H. Kenneth Hudnell, PhD, and on the clinical experiences of Dr. Shoemaker (1-8).

    Our Research

"The pathogens may differ, but the biotoxins they produce all do their damage by setting off an "exaggerated inflammatory response" in humans. While hiding out in fatty tissues where blood-borne disease-fighters can't get at them, they "trick" the body's immune system for fighting germs into launching attacks of inflammation in many organ systems, including joints, muscles, nerves and brain. Increasingly, there is evidence to show that these attacks are carried out by a newly discovered group of molecules, the "proinflammatory cytokines," and that the devastation they cause is clearly linked to recent surges in the rates of heart disease, obesity and diabetes. Much more research is needed, of course. Nonetheless, the recent findings about inflammatory disorders caused by biotoxin-driven cytokines do seem likely to challenge our understanding of the body's "immune system" in the years immediately ahead, while also forcing us to reevaluate much of our currently accepted medical practice. At the same time, these provocative discoveries will require medical researchers to confront the grim possibility that these organisms have "figured out" how to skew our basic immune responses. How? By targeting them with powerful toxic molecules that can wreak havoc on the body's system for protecting itself from disease."

A New Diagnostic Tool And A New Drug Therapy Provide Major Weapons Against The Surging Epidemic of Post-Lyme Syndrome:
    http://www.chronicneurotoxins.com/learnmore/lymedisease.cfm

    "Previous Diagnoses
Chronically ill patients successfully treated by Dr. Shoemaker and others using our treatment protocol had many previous diagnoses, including Depression, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Sick Building Syndrome, Bell's Palsy, learning disability, endometriosis, sensory-neural deafness, low vision, Chronic Soft Tissue Injury (usually from an automobile accident) and Post-Lyme Disease."

The Role Of Infection In Initiating Me/Cfs
"While the question of what causes ME/CFS is logically the first question on people’s mind, it is almost an inappropriate question. It has occupied many years of research on the illness, and has caused enormous confusion, yet now fades to the background because it is becoming apparent that it is almost irrelevant. And the difficulty in finding “a cause” has been one of the prime reasons that people have doubted the reality of this illness. What has become apparent is that there are many “causes”, and what is important is not so much the initiating event or infection, but the mechanism of what perpetuates the illness. In other words, it is not the actual onset that matters, but why the symptoms do not resolve after the onset."

Fibromyalgia: Show Me Where It Hurts

Fibromyalgia- is there an infectious connection?
Potential Pathogens As is the case of most forms of "arthritis," no known cause has been established, but a number of possibilities are mentioned in the medical literature. Like many forms of arthritis, the cause of FM is probably not limited to one single factor. 55% of patients identify a "flu-like" or viral type illness, 33% physical trauma/injury and 14% emotional stress as a precursor to the onset of symptoms. The connection of FM to infections is well documented in the literature, especially in relation to Lyme disease, mycoplasma, Chlamydia pneumoniae., Hepatitis C, Parvovirus B19, HIV, and Epstein-Barr. It is believed as many as 25-40% of long-term Lyme patients develop fibromyalgia-like symptoms, particularly pain and fatigue; as many as 25% of HIV patients, 57% of RA patients and 24% of Psoriatic Arthritis patients also have FM symptoms.

When given in this manner, the immunosuppressive effects of the antibiotics are minimized but their ability to weaken bacterial ribosomes remains intact. Patients gradually increases the dosage of the pulsed antibiotic, so that species of bacteria that are susceptible to all different concentration levels will eventually be targeted."

What is an Antibiotic (IV) "Push"?

"Some medications are also given by IV push, meaning that a syringe is connected to the IV access device and the medication is injected directly (slowly, if it might irritate the vein or cause a too-rapid effect). Once a medicine has been injected into the fluid stream of the IV tubing there must be some means of ensuring that it gets from the tubing to the patient. Usually this is accomplished by allowing the fluid stream to flow normally and thereby carry the medicine into the bloodstream; however, a second fluid injection is sometimes used, a "flush", following the injection to push the medicine into the bloodstream more quickly."

    "Cpni induced secondary porphyriai
Treatment of Chlamydia infection may exacerbate pre-existing genetic porphyria or more likely cause a secondary acute porphyria by making the intracellulari Chlamydia more active or by killing infected cells that already are loaded with high porphyrin levels. Some of what is mis-labeled as a “herx” reaction to treatment, is actually an acute porphyria reaction and not a reaction to bacterial endotoxini which is what a true
    herxheimer reaction is referring to."

    *** Acquired and secondary porphyria****
Erythrohepatic protopotphyria (liver and red blood cells)

The Acquired porphyrias may be considered to be the result of an environmental insult or poison on either (1) a genetically predisposed individual or (2) a previously normal individual with no familial history or predisposition to the disease.

This means there has been damage to the liver or bone marrow or both, resulting in various deficiencies of different enzymes in the porphyrin-to heme-pathway, with the subsequent depositing of porphyrins in different tissues causing the disease.

     Rheumatoid Arthritis: The Infection Connection {Targeting and Treating the Cause of Chronic Illness}
    By Katherine Poehlmann, PhD,
The premise of this book is that infection by pathogenic microbes has been shown to be a significant co-factor in many autoimmune disorders besides Rheumatoid Arthritis. These conditions include Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Scleroderma, Lupus, CFIDS, Gulf War Illness, tendonitis (i.e., Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), as well as painful sports injuries that fail to heal. Hallmarks of a microbial infection include joint pain, inflammation, bursitis, and chronic fatigue.  The book describes a scientifically proven medical treatment, along with nutrition and diet methods to strengthen the immune system.  Unlike standard medical treatments for RA, this protocol addresses the cause(s), not just relief of
    symptoms.

Bacteriality: Exploring Chronic Disease - About the Marshall Protocol

"The ability of the Th1 pathogens to proliferate in the body is directly related to the vitamin D receptor (VDR). Critically important to the body, the Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) controls the innate immune system – the body’s first line of defense against infection. It’s also responsible for turning on/off a wide array of genes and chemical pathways. One of the VDR’s myriad jobs is to control expression of several families of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), proteins that kill bacteria, viruses and fungi by a variety of mechanisms including disrupting membranes, interfering with metabolism, and targeting components of the machinery inside the cell.

Although casually referred to as a vitamin by some members of the medical community, molecular biologists have long realized that the precursor form of vitamin D (25-D) is really a secosteroid. Recent molecular modeling research (which has been confirmed by a large amount of clinical data) has shown that levels of 25-D over 20 ng/ml can bind and inactivate the VDR, which subsequently shuts down the innate immune system.

Certain species of bacteria also produce substances that can bind and inactivate the VDR in a manner similar to 25-D. Consequently, people who are infected with the Th1 pathogens and consuming vitamin D are no longer able to produce the AMPs or turn on the innate immune system. This allows their bacteria to proliferate and spread."

A Journey Towards Complete Recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome:

The Story of My Progress on the Marshall Protocol

    July 25, 2005

The MP, created by doctor and researcher Trevor Marshall, is based on the idea that CFS and many other chronic diseases (termed Th1 illnesses, including fibromyalgia, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis), are caused when certain individuals accumulate large amounts of bacteria that have mutated and lost their cell walls. Because of this mutation, antibiotics are unable to kill them directly. Unlike other forms of bacteria, cell wall deficient (CWD) bacteria have also developed the ability to remain alive and proliferate undetected inside the very cells of the immune system that the body uses to kill invading pathogens, allowing them to generate a wide array of painful symptoms.

The Marshall Protocol (MP) in Laymen’s Terms -- November 12, 2005.
Presentation before a Lyme Support Group Meeting (Transcript Part 1)
    by J. C. Waterhouse, Ph.D.

"I’ve been on the Marshall Protocol for almost a year and I believe I’m on my way to being cured of the chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia (FM) and Lyme disease that I have had for over 20 years. A year ago, I would have never imagined I would be well enough to give a presentation like this. Before the Marshall Protocol, I had tried two years of a diverse group of oral antibiotics, that included flagyl and tinidazole. I took some of the antibiotics in high doses and I tried them in various combinations and I didn’t improve."

"I found Dr. St. Amand’s protocol using guaifenesin helped. However, now I believe that the Marshall Protocol probably makes guaifenesin unnecessary. For those of you who are interested, I think this is because when you lower elevated vitamin D levels on the MP, it helps your body excrete phosphate more normally. So, by lowering 1,25D for the MP, you may be accomplishing what guaifenesin does. And, in addition, the MP kills the bacteria, which are the underlying cause."

Vitamin D, the Vitamin D Receptor and Chronic Disease --
Brain Lesions, Vascular Calcification and Osteoporosis:
Two Views of Vitamin D Supplementation and Parathyroid Hormone
    by J. C. Waterhouse, Ph.D.

    Introduction
Recently, there have been increasing calls for higher levels of vitamin D intake, particularly for the prevention and treatment of various chronic conditions, including osteoporosis in older adults (1). Such calls for increasing vitamin D intake continue, despite a large meta analysis that recently failed to show that vitamin D when added to calcium supplementation had a significantly greater reduction in fractures than calcium alone (2, 3). And another large meta analysis looking at mortality over a 1-5 year period, also failed to show a statistically significant effect from vitamin D supplementation (3, 4). Despite these meta analyses, vitamin D supplementation is still being urged at higher and higher levels and some contend that there is still evidence in its favor (1, 5, 6).

There is another emerging view that centers on the vitamin D receptor (VDR). It is based on the work of Trevor Marshall, Ph.D., who argues that vitamin D receptor (VDR) competence is a crucial, but over looked factor in chronic disease (7, 8). His disease model is based on molecular modeling and clinical research that provides a model of chronic inflammatory disease (7, 8, 9). In this view, a properly functioning vitamin D receptor is seen as key to innate immune function (7, 10, 11).

This new work has revealed that the ability of the VDR to properly stimulate the innate immune system is impeded by high levels of vitamin D – (measured as the precursor form, the secosteroid 25D) - which binds and decreases the activity of the receptor. Thus higher levels of 25D decrease the ability of the active hormonal form of vitamin D, 1,25D, to activate the VDR. Bacterial products have been identified that also block the activity of the VDR (8). Sophisticated computer modeling has determined that olmesartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker, is able to displace substances that block the VDR and itself, activate the VDR (7, 8, 9). When combined with vitamin D reduction and low dose pulsed antibiotics, Marshall’s protocol is gradually able to eliminate cell wall deficient (CWD L-form) and biofilm bacteria at the heart of many unexplained inflammatory diseases. These treatment-resistant bacteria, acquired over a lifetime, are thought to stimulate inflammation in many diseases, ranging from sarcoidosis, “autoimmune” diseases and diseases of aging, such as diabetes, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.

As a result of the problems with VDR blockage just mentioned, this new view does not regard vitamin D supplementation and a higher 25D as generally beneficial for the treatment or prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases. These new findings call for a re examination of past research on vitamin D in the light of Marshall’s work and other new research.

Simple explanation of the pathogenesis of Th1 inflammation

-The CWD-bacteria create the dysregulation. They create 1,25-D in quantities that your body can't handle.

-The latest research as pointed out by Dr Marshall clearly indicates that it is not just one bacteria making you sick, but an accumulation of bacteria and the changes they provoke in the cells they infect.

-You get these bacteria in all sorts of ways; by water, soil, milk, sperm, blood transfusion, etc.

-Research found that a cell that was invaded by one bacteria led to 70 new genes and 368 altered genes.

-An immunecell is programmed to kill and destroy invaders

-A bacteria getting in that cell alters that program, making it possible for more bacteria to get in by producing 1,25-D which affects the proteins in the cell's wall, creating gaps where they can sneak in

-If a second bacteria of another species gets in, that leads to even more reprogramming. Possibly that new program makes the immunecell create the cytokine-cascade (the actual inflammation)

-Dr Marshall believes that there are many new programs possible if even more species enter/infect the cells

-Some of these new programs are called RA, some are called Lyme, some CFS etc.

-In other words: the constant reprogramming of the genes in your cells by the different species of CWD-bacteria and possibly the order in which they infect the cells leads to the different Th1-illnesses, not an initial genetic defect

(BTW, On the DVDs Dr Marshall pointed out that the research of Prof. Bach showed that cumulative infection/ gathering of CWD-bacteria had a definite impact)

    Cell Wall Deficient Bacteria (CWD)

Cell Wall Deficient bacteria act in four ways:

    1. they produce 1,25-D to 'hide' from the immunes ystem

    2. they produce 1,25-D to weaken the cell walls of the immune system cells

    3. they produce excess 1,25-D which is the hormone that is like the 'fuel' for inflammation (it is needed for the immune-cells to differentiate)

    4. they directly stimulate the phagocytes (nucleus) to start a cytokine cascade (the actual inflammation)

CWD bacteria need angiotensin II to do the first 3 and Benicar blocks that, thereby turning it all around:

    1. they are less able to hide

    2. they can't slip in and out of the cells of the immune system so easily

    3. there is less 1,25-D, so less 'fuel' for the inflammation, therefore bringing the inflammation down

-Benicar blocks only angiotensin II type one receptors to inhibit bacterial growth.

-Benicar does not inhibit the good effects of angiotensin II type 2 receptors and this allows the immune system to function normally.

    Successive intracellular infection

-We all get invaded/infected by CWD-bacteria constantly.

-These CWD-bacteria alter the genes in the invaded/infected cells (not the human genes/DNA, but only the genes in the infected cells' nucleus).

-If you are first invaded/infected by CWD # 1 you may have 70 genes that are altered (this is shown by research).

-If you are then invaded/infected by bacteria #2, there will be even more genes altered, as well as the ones that are already altered.

-You can see that if you get invaded/infected by more and more species, you can get enormous changes.

-You, and also everyone else on this planet, will give CWD-bacteria to other people.

    Biofilms

-Several sorts of bacteria make biofilms. Our 'beloved' CWD too.

-Biofilms consist of colonies of bacteria. This makes up the DNA pea soup, since these colonies consist of all sorts of bacteria, probably also the CWD forms we know.

-Several sorts of bacteria manufacture capnine.

The order in which things seem to develop:

    - Bacterium 1 enters cell

    - Innate immunity cannot kill it: this might be because vitamin D is too high, but also because of the capnine some bacteria manufacture, so there are now at least two mechanisms the bacteria use to evade being killed by the host (that's us)

    - Bacterium 1 starts making biofilm, thereby further evading being killed (this might in fact be mechanism number three)

    - Bacterium 1 also starts de-regulating the host (our) DNA

    - Now bacterium 2 (might be and probably is of a totally different species) enters the cell and also enters the biofilm, and helps bacterium 1 to make more biofilm

    - Even more changes in host (our) DNA are being made

    - The bacteria start mutiplying, more capnine is produced, more biofilm, and then the kids move out, so to speak, and move to other cells, etc, etc

(This might be what we are observing under the microscope, once the bacteria's "food has run out", those long strings of pearls, they are probably trying to move to other cells to survive)

    - etcetera

Simple explanation of vitamin D metabolism

There are two forms of Vitamin D.....active and inactive.

Vitamin D is not a vitamin. Vitamins are substances the body cannot make (lack of Vitamin C causing scurvy is a good example).

Vitamin D is a secosteroid hormone with a function similar to that which prednisone performs. It was misidentified when it was discovered (at the University of Wisconsin) and the name has stuck. Vitamin D (a secosteroid hormone) is an immune-suppressant.

The body makes the inactive form of Vitamin D in the cells of the skin.

The Vitamin D made in the skin is inactive and easy to measure. It's only function is as a precursor for the body to make the active form of Vitamin D.

People do not need to take Vitamin D in any form (food or supplements) to have enough of the active form in their body because the body makes it in the kidneys and other cells using the inactive form made in the skin.

It only takes a few minutes of natural light to produce enough inactive Vitamin D which is stored by the body for use when natural light is scarce.

The active form of Vitamin D is used by the Vitamin D Receptors (VDR) in almost every cell in the body, including immune system cells, for many vital functions including activating the immune system.

Most chronic disease is caused by inflammation. Inflammation is caused by intracellular bacteria that live within the white cells of the immune system.

These bacteria block activation of the Vitamin D Receptors in the cells, so that key antimicrobial peptides cannot be manufactured by the immune system, and in the process cause the body to produce too much active Vitamin D to accumulate in the cells.

Thus, the bacteria can continue to live and multiply within the cells of the immune system.

People who are ill with inflammatory diseases make too much of the active hormone but scientists rarely measure this because it is difficult and expensive.

People who are ill and have too much of the active Vitamin D will have a low level of the inactive Vitamin D because of a complicated feedback mechanism in the cells that manufacture the active Vitamin D. In other words, the high active Vitamin D reduces the level of the inactive Vitamin D....remember this is the only form scientists usually bother to measure.....erroneously thinking that a low inactive level means a low active level.

Scientists have ignored this crucial fact and base conclusions about disease on the measurement of only the inactive Vitamin D which is low because of the disease process.

When people with chronic disease have their active Vitamin D level measured it is found to be high.

Low inactive Vitamin D does not cause diseases. The diseases cause the low inactive Vitamin D.

Studies of Vitamin D need to measure both inactive Vitamin D (which will be low in chronic disease) and the active Vitamin D which will be high in chronic disease in order to come to accurate conclusions about chronic disease.

People with chronic disease who take Vitamin D (food and supplements) will suppress the action of the Vitamin D Receptor and thus turn-off the immune system's response so it cannot fight the intra-phagocytic bacteria that cause chronic inflammatory diseases.

Cancer is caused by inflammation. Taking supplemental vitamin D will not prevent cancer.

Some people feel better in the short-term when they take Vitamin D because bacteria are not being killed which often causes temporary symptoms due to increased toxins, but they will succumb to the chronic diseases which are caused by intracellular infection more rapidly in the long-run.

Many people with chronic diseases feel ill when they take too much Vitamin D or spend too much time in the sun where their skin makes Vitamin D.

Too much active vitamin D has the effect of taking calcium from the bones and depositing it in the heart or lungs or kidneys (kidney stones), reducing their function.

Too much active Vitamin D causes calcium to leech from bones which results in osteoporosis.

Rickets is caused by too little calcium not lack of Vitamin D."

"Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis, Gulf War Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, lupus, Crohn's disease, and a host of other disorders have baffled physicians and caused untold pain among sufferers for years. Now, there is mounting evidence that these disorders may well be caused by a peculiar species of a highly contagious and insidious stealth-pathogen ... mycoplasma. The further good news is, if we know the cause, we are more likely to be able to determine a cure."

"What is a mycoplasma?  Most of the body's 100 trillion cells have a cell membrane composed of proteins and fats. The purpose of the cell membrane is to regulate the passage of nutrients in and out of the cell. Mycoplasmas are neither viral nor bacterial. They lack a cell membrane enabling them to change form, invade other cells with impunity, and play hide-and-seek within the body's immune system causing any number of auto-immune disorders."

"Evidence now confirms that noncommunicable chronic diseases can stem from infectious agents. Furthermore, at least 13 of 39 recently described infectious agents induce chronic syndromes. Identifying the relationships can affect health across populations, creating opportunities to reduce the impact of chronic disease by preventing or treating infection. As the concept is progressively accepted, advances in laboratory technology and epidemiology facilitate the detection of noncultivable, novel, and even recognized microbial origins. A spectrum of diverse pathogens and chronic syndromes emerges, with a range of pathways from exposure to chronic illness or disability. Complex systems of changing human behavioral traits superimposed on human, microbial, and environmental factors often determine risk for exposure and chronic outcome. Yet the strength of causal evidence varies widely, and detecting a microbe does not prove causality. Nevertheless, infectious agents likely determine more cancers, immune-mediated syndromes, neurodevelopmental disorders, and other chronic conditions than currently appreciated.

Infectious agents have emerged as notable determinants, not just complications, of chronic diseases. Not infrequently, infection may simply represent the first misstep along a continuum from health to long-term illness and disability. Preventing or treating infection or the immune response to infection offers a chance to disrupt the continuum, avoiding or minimizing a chronic outcome. To capitalize on these opportunities, clinicians, public health practitioners, and policymakers must recognize that many chronic diseases may indeed have infectious origins."

Glutathione: The Master Antioxidant That Defends Against Illness

    April 20, 2005

TORONTO A slew of recent evidence and rare US and international patents have accelerated research on one of the body's chief defenses against illness, the essential, yet little-known protein, glutathione (GSH). Medical patents for natural health interventions are few and far between in the world of chemically-based drugs.

"In the next five or six years, people are going to be using the word glutathione as commonly as they use the word vitamin C or antioxidant," says Dr. Jimmy Gutman, a Montreal-based physician and author of "GSH, Your Body's Most Powerful Protector, Glutathione".

"Glutathione is virtually involved in dozens of critical cell processes and without it we would succumb to our environment literally within hours," says Gutman.

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is the pre-acetylized form of the simple amino acid Cysteine. N-Acetyl Cysteine is a powerful antioxidant and a premier antitoxin and immune support substance. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which are produced by normal metabolic activity. When free radicals are left unchecked they cause damage to cells and DNA and are considered by scientists to be a major factor in the aging process. N-Acetyl Cysteine has been shown to provide protection against free radicals as well as a broad range of toxic hazards such as: acrolein (found in barbecue and cigarette smoke and auto exhaust), bromobenzene, paraquat (a toxic herbicide), overdoses of acetaminophen, and the side-effects of cyclophosphamide and adrimycin (anticancer drugs). The key to this protection may be the sulphur and sulfhydryl groups contained in N-Acetyl Cysteine and its derivative, Glutathione. Both Cysteine and Methionine are good precursors of glutathione, but N-Acetyl Cysteine is better. L-cysteine loses approximately 85% of its sulphur group (which becomes the active part of glutathione) in the digestion process, while N-Acetyl Cysteine, a more stable compound, loses only 15%. This means that N-Acetyl Cysteine has almost six times more effective sulphur groups left after digestion.N-Acetyl Cysteine is also a better source of glutathione than taking glutathione itself, because less than half of supplemental glutathione gets out of the digestive system and into the body. This greater efficiency is important since cellular glutathione levels tend to drop 30% to 35% with age. Supplemental N-Acetyl Cysteine may have an anti-aging effect by increasing glutathione levels in the liver, lungs, kidneys and bone marrow.NAC is currently the dietary supplement of choice for building up or conserving the body's stores of glutathion, cysteine, and other sulfhydryl antioxidant resources. NAC is well tolerated, is well absorbed, resists enzymatic breakdown, and has been proven to raise i ...

Cytokine Inflammation and Management in Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
    by John W. Addington -- ImmuneSupport.com -- 07-24-2002

"Inflammation in an otherwise healthy person is a natural response to injury or infection and is part of the normal healing process. Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, can reflect an improperly functioning immune system. Many researchers feel that chronic inflammation along with an altered immune system may either be the cause or contribute to fibromyalgia (FM) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) symptoms. Fortunately, some treatment options are emerging to manage such inflammation and thus limit the discomfort and pain brought on by these ailments."

"Chlorine dioxide is the topic of author, scientist, chemist and humanitarian, Jim Humble's book entitled, "Breakthrough, The Miracle Mineral Supplement of the 21st Century". In Breakthrough, Humble describes how he discovered the use of chlorine dioxide as an alternative treatment for Malaria, which has since led to over 75,000 documented successful treatments of the disease in Africa. Humble's research aims to establish MMS as a powerful alternative treatment to most pathogen-borne diseases.
Chlorine dioxide can be used to kill "disease-bearing bacteria, yeasts, molds, fungi and algae", including MRSA and other deadly pathogens."

Rapid Recovery From Major Depression Using Magnesium Treatment

    George A. Eby *, Karen L. Eby

George Eby Research, 14909-C Fitzhugh Road, Austin, TX 78736, United States

    Received 18 January 2006; accepted 20 January 2006

Summary Major depression is a mood disorder characterized by a sense of inadequacy, despondency, decreased activity, pessimism, anhedonia and sadness where these symptoms severely disrupt and adversely affect the person’s life, sometimes to such an extent that suicide is attempted or results. Antidepressant drugs are not always effective and some have been accused of causing an increased number of suicides particularly in young people. Magnesium deficiency is well known to produce neuropathologies. Only 16% of the magnesium found in whole wheat remains in refined flour, and magnesium has been removed from most drinking water supplies, setting a stage for human magnesium deficiency.  Magnesium ions regulate calcium ion flow in neuronal calcium channels, helping to regulate neuronal nitric oxide production. In magnesium deficiency, neuronal requirements for magnesium may not be met, causing neuronal damage which could manifest as depression. Magnesium treatment is hypothesized to be effective in treating major depression
resulting from intraneuronal magnesium deficits. These magnesium ion neuronal deficits may be induced by stress hormones, excessive dietary calcium as well as dietary deficiencies of magnesium. Case histories are presented showing rapid recovery (less than 7 days) from major depression using 125–300 mg of magnesium (as glycinate and taurinate) with each meal and at bedtime. Magnesium was found usually effective for treatment of depression in general use.  Related and accompanying mental illnesses in these case histories including traumatic brain injury, headache, suicidal ideation, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, postpartum depression, cocaine, alcohol and tobacco abuse, hypersensitivity to calcium, short-term memory loss and IQ loss were also benefited. Dietary deficiencies of magnesium, coupled with excess calcium and stress may cause many cases of other related symptoms including agitation, anxiety, irritability, confusion, asthenia, sleeplessness, headache, delirium, hallucinations and hyperexcitability, with each of these having been previously documented. The possibility that magnesium deficiency is the cause of most major depression and related mental health problems including IQ loss and addiction is enormously important to public health and is recommended for immediate further study. Fortifying refined grain and drinking water with biologically available magnesium to pre-twentieth century levels is recommended.

Antioxidant Suggestions For Down-regulation of the NO/ONOO- Cycle from Dr. Martin Pall, PhD
    by Martin L. Pall, PhD

    06-12-2007

"Martin Pall, PhD, School of Molecular Biosciences, Washington State University, has identified the NO/ONOO- cycle (the stress-induced increase in the levels of nitric oxide and its oxidant product peroxynitrite, and the biochemical vicious cycle that keeps these levels chronically elevated) as a key mechanism underlying oxidative stress. [See the article: "Nitric Oxide Cycle Theory: Will It Explain CFS, FM, and Other 'Unexplained Illnesses?"]"

Live Chat with Martin L. Pall, PhD – July 6, 2007: Professor of Biochemistry Explains Mechanisms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia & Suggested Protocol
    ImmuneSupport.com
    07-09-2007
"Dr. Pall has concluded that a single complex biochemical cycle which elevates levels of potent oxidants in the body – the nitric oxide/peroxynitrite cycle (NO/ONOO- cycle) – is responsible for causing CFS, FM, MCS, PTSD, and other chronic diseases. He believes this vicious cycle is initiated by a range of short-term stressors including viral and bacterial infections, toxic chemicals, physical trauma, and severe psychological stress. And a well-chosen regimen of antioxidants and other agents may help the body down-regulate that cycle."

Healing Back Pain, Blood Pressure, Fibromyalgia

"This discovery, that 9 out of 10 people were not "utilizing" their dietary protein to rebuild their tissues, but rather converting much of it to sugars and burning it as fuel or storing it as fat, was revolutionary. Dr. Vickery found that most of his patients were in a "nutritional" crisis mode where their systems could not sustain themselves and were depleted to a point of serious degeneration. Dr Vickery determined that if he could find a way for the body to absorb the proper nutrition it needed that the body could begin to heal itself and correct the years of degeneration. So in the early 80's Dr. Vickery teamed up with a score of world renown doctors and chemists to find the missing factor in the nutritional chain. This missing link turned out to be the free form amino acid chain. But not just any amino formula would work. They discovered that in order for the body to utilize all the necessary nutrients the free form amino chain needed to be a perfect balance of amino acids similar to that found in nature."

By 1986 the first "Essential Amino Acid formula" was in production and this perfectly balanced formula was in use. Back pain in thousands of cases responded so well, that Dr. Vickery in a 50 case study had 100% success. These ranged from herniated disks (confirmed by CT Scan and MRI) to lesions that were still intra-diskal yet were causing pain and malfunction."

"What happened next took the staff by surprise. Not only back pain and disk problems were being healed, but arthritis, depression, hypoglycemia, heart problems, blood pressure, fibromyalgia and a host of conditions cleared up coincidentally with the treatment of the back injuries! Needing to confirm these finding independently Dr. Vickery made his formula available to other doctors for free. They began to have similar results!"

    Understanding and Curing Fibromyalgia

    by Dr. Brice E. Vickery

This article, written by Dr. Brice Vickery, explains the fibromyalgia mystery, its origins in hypoglycemia, and protein deficiency, its relationship to viral, bacterial, yeast and fungal infections. It will illuminate fibromyalgia's connection to spinal degeneration and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It will also discuss testing methods to explain how to find these conditions in the body. Although the Vickery methods are not standard medical procedure today, they are extremely efficient, cost effective, and highly accurate. Many years of research went into the development of the testing methods and the development of the Platinum Plus Amino Acids, the foundation of all Vickery programs for the cure of many disease conditions, including fibromyalgia.

NEW CLUES TO CHRONIC FATIGUE  "Researchers in France have found a probable cause for two painful conditions that have long puzzled medical science.  They discovered traces of a virus in skeletal muscles of people with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia - but none in healthy volunteers.  "The virus, known as enterovirus, also turned up in people with inflammatory muscle  diseases", says Fatima Douche-Aourik of the medical school at the University Hospital Center in Saint-Etienne.  "The researchers believe a persistent infection caused by the virus may explain these conditions, according to their report in Vol. 71, Issue 4 of the Journal of Medical Virology."

Detection of enterovirus in human skeletal muscle from patients with chronic inflammatory muscle disease or fibromyalgia and healthy subjects
Enterovirus RNA has been found previously in specimens of muscle biopsy from patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, chronic inflammatory muscle diseases, and fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome (fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome). These results suggest that skeletal muscle may host enteroviral persistent infection.

CFS Radio Program Jan. 16th, 2000. Roger G. Mazlen, M.D. Host with Dr. Larry Klapow.

"Dr. Mazlen: Dr. Larry Klapow was a guest on this past Sunday's CFS Radio Show and gave a very important and very informative report of the work he has been doing. Dr. Klapow has been finding a new roundworm type of parasite in CFS patients called "Cryptostrongylus pulmoni". I found this show to be of particular interest to me because I have been found to have this particular parasitic infection and was very interested to learn of the immunologic dysfunctions that it can cause. I truly think that this important work definitely plays a part in the complex puzzle that is known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."

The Yeast Connection : A Medical Breakthrough (Vintage)

If you have intense sugar cravings, get sick a lot, are depressed, or are tired all the time, read this book. If you have been on birth control, taking a lot of antibiotics, or eating a diet high in sugar and processed foods, read this book. If doctors can't figure out what is wrong with you, read this book.

    Iodine: The Candida Killer!
"Perhaps the world's cheapest, most traditional, and best anti Candida agent is the simplest. It is iodine. Yes, I am describing the same iodine found in "tincture of iodine" that your mother used to treat your cuts and scratches when you were a child. Because Big Pharma drug companies have re-educated us to believe that the fancy new (expensive) antibiotics are better and safer than (dirt cheap) iodine, we have lost sight of the one truly miraculous and completely natural antiviral, antibiotic and antifungal agent. Nothing is likely to beat iodine in this regard. However, Big Pharma marketing has taught us that we shouldn't tolerate the deep, long lasting stain that iodine causes when applied to our skin. Yes, iodine will stain your skin, but when used properly that stain can be of enormous value to you in your battle against Candida"

"Ionic zinc is also antifungal, and dietary supplements of zinc can also be helpful in treating candida infections. According to this article, it works synergistically with iodine. How much zinc? You won't believe my theories without substantial evidence, consequently I will refer you to my theoretical article on treating extremely dangerous disorders (smallpox and brown recluse spider bites) with extremely large amounts of zinc here. OK. Forget that, just don't take more zinc than will make you nauseous or more than one milligram per pound of body weight a day (2.2 mg/kg) for more than a month."

    "Kefir: The Candida Crusher
"Think of Candida Albicans as being a toxic weed. What do you do? Is it sufficient to kill the weeds? Is it sufficient to just kill the Candida Albicans? In both cases the answer is no. Why? They both come back later, and may even come back with a vengeance.....we must repopulate our intestines with fungi and bacteria that will prevent the regrowth of Candida Albicans."

"What must be done to assure victory over Candida Albicans is to use Kefir after killing Candida Albicans with antifungals, not while killing them, because the good guys in Kefir can easily be killed by antifungals, defeating the purpose of Kefir. I had never heard of Kefir until May of 2004, but after a few weeks of drinking Kefir, I became very willing to offer glowing praise for this old Turkish "feel good" product. Kefir is rich in gut friendly bacteria and yeasts. The friendly yeasts in Kefir repopulate the intestinal tract, replacing the dangerous Candida Albicans, allowing vastly improved digestion, and intestinal health."

"These tests are just general indicators.  If you test positive or score high on any one of them, it means that you probably have Candida Overgrowth dysbiosis and it would be in your best interest to get a more accurate medical test as described in the Treatment Program section.  ( see the "Test don’t Guess" section of  Treatment Program.  Generally, the higher your score the greater is the urgency."

Test #1: How often do you eat these foods?

Sugar, Candy, Chocolate, Dessert, Alcohol, Tea/Coffee, Colas, Juice, Pop, Fast Foods, Junk Snacks, Pasta, Noodles, Pizza, Fruit Bread, Rolls, Donuts, Dairy Products, etc.

"First, let us say there is nothing inherently wrong with any of the above foods. Everyone enjoys a treat every now and then. However, if you find yourself eating these kind of foods several times a week, much less every day or several times a day, then it definitely indicates trouble.  That "sweet tooth" could indicate a deeper underlying health problem like Candida Albicans yeast infection Overgrowth.

With the exception of fruit, most of the items above are not even real foods. They are packaged, processed, refined and lifeless. They are loaded with sugar. If you are craving sugar (and you are if you eat these types of foods) then the chances are high that you are feeding the yeastie beastie."

Test #2: This is a spit test. The best time to do this test is the first thing in the morning as soon as you wake up. Before you rinse, spit, or put anything in your mouth, go get a glass of water (in a clear glass). Now build up a bunch of saliva (just mouth saliva, do not cough up anything) and spit it into the glass of water. Observe what happens. The saliva will float. That is OK and normal. If within 15 minutes you see thin projections extending downward into the water, it is a positive sign for candida. The projections may look like hair, or small strings, like a jelly fish or spider legs, moving down into the water from the saliva floating on the top. Other positive indications might be very "cloudy" saliva that will sink to the bottom of the glass within a few minutes or particles that slowly sink or suspend below the saliva glob.  What you are seeing are colonies of yeast which band together to form the strings.

Test #3: Review the signs and symptoms to determine if you have Candida Albicans yeast infection Overgrowth. These 3 Self-Tests are provided to help you determine if it would be wise to proceed further. Each one of these tests is a general indicator. If you test positive or score high on any one of them, it means you probably have Candida Albicans yeast infection Overgrowth, or Candida Overgrowth (CO) dysbiosis and it would definitely be in your best interest to begin this program and get a real test, see the "Test don’t Guess" section of  Treatment Program Generally, the higher your score the greater is the urgency.

The Neuro-Programmer 2 (NP2) is an innovative software application for the PC, built to help you achieve rapid and long lasting personal change. NP2 stimulates Brainwaves while using Hypnosis, NLP and other Psychological techniques to help you transform your mind and enhance your mental abilities.

NP2 combines the methods of many different fields and disciplines into one easy to use program built to help you change yourself.

For example, one way NP2 affects the mind is through a neurological process known as brainwave entrainment. When neurologists first began to measure the brain's response to stimuli, it was found that if light and sound stimuli were precisely timed to the electrical activity of the brain, brainwave patterns could actually be altered. In turn, the mental state of a person could reliably be changed. As an example, someone who is wide awake may start to feel relaxed and drowsy when given a stimulus corresponding to a relaxed brainwave pattern. This has become known as audio/visual brainwave entrainment. Today, 70 years after the discovery of this effect, brainwave entrainment is widely used for a huge variety of purposes, not only to measure the brain's response, but also to train the brain to a particular mental state. It has become so widely used that many clinical EEG units come with entrainment devices.

Brainwave Entrainment's usefulness is not limited to relaxation and enhancing academic performance. It can also be used for reducing headaches, insomnia, ADD, fibromyalgia, stress and even enhancing athletic performance. Refer to the Benefits section for more information.

Scottish scientists find 'key to curing ME'
(also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - CFS)

    IAN JOHNSTON

    SCIENCE CORRESPONDENT

"A REMEDY for the debilitating condition ME, once derided as "yuppie flu", could be available in as little as a year after groundbreaking Scottish research.

A Glasgow University team has discovered a malfunction in sufferers' genes which appears to prompt their immune system to "work overtime", making patients extremely tired.

The lead scientist, Dr John Gow, said a cocktail of drugs could be used to "turn off" the genes, allowing patients to live "a fairly normal" life.

The university has already patented the genes involved as a means of diagnosing the condition, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), quickly and cheaply."

Australian researchers have put the suggestion in this week's Journal of Infectious Diseases, which reveals new findings from the 'Dubbo Infection Outcomes Study'. Since 1999, a team led by UNSW Professor Andrew Lloyd have been tracking the long-term health of individuals infected with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Ross River virus (RRV) or Q fever infection. Their goal is to discover whether the post-infection fatigue syndrome that may affect up to 100,000 Australians is caused by the persistence of EBV, a weakened immune system, psychological vulnerability, or some combination of these."

Chronic Fatigue Is in the Genes, Study Finds
Mutations are to blame for a syndrome often scoffed at as imaginary, researchers say.
By Thomas H. Maugh II, Times Staff Writer

"Chronic fatigue syndrome, often dismissed as the imaginings of depressed and whiny people, is caused by genetic mutations that impair the central nervous system's ability to adapt to stressful situations, according to a major new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Small changes in many of the genes in the brain prevent the nervous system from rebounding from everyday stress and from less frequent, stronger pressures, eventually triggering a cascade of molecular responses that leave the patient severely debilitated, researchers reported Thursday in 14 separate papers in the journal Pharmacogenomics.

"This is the first credible evidence for a biological basis" for the syndrome, said CDC Director Dr. Julie L. Gerberding."

Increased neutrophil apoptosis in chronic fatigue syndrome

"Ninewells Hospital & Medical School, Dundee DD1 9SY, UK.

Conclusion: We have shown that patients with CFS also have increased neutrophil apoptosis and higher levels of TGF-b1. We suggest that increased neutrophil apoptosis and inhibition of transmigration of neutrophils by higher TGF-b1 levels may be indicative of a persistent viral infection or a toxic state giving rise to many of the symptoms which characterize CFS. It might also be that increased apoptosis merely reflects a quicker turnover of neutrophils in this condition, but either way the data presented here provides convincing evidence that many patients with CFS have an underlying detectable abnormality."

"In the first chapter of this section we discussed the evidence pointing to certain infections causing ME/CFS. The next question is how do these infections cause the prolonged symptoms, and for some, the flu that never ends. The answer to this question involves the immune mechanism set off by the infection, and specifically the abnormal immune mechanism that allows for persistence of symptoms even after the obvious infection has gone away."

Scientists Find Genetic Link for a Disorder

"Imagine you keep waking up with a fierce urge to move your legs, each time further eroding your sleep quota and your partner’s patience. You have restless legs syndrome, a quaintly named disorder whose sufferers may get more respect now that its genetic basis has been identified.

Two independent teams, one in Germany and one in Iceland, have identified three variant sites on the human genome which predispose people to the condition. The advance should help scientists understand the biological basis of the disorder, which could lead to new ideas for treatment."

Good News For Fibromyalgia Patients: "Dr. Samuel Yue noted that many women with fibromyalgia enjoy a
reduction or even a remission of symptoms during pregnancy.  He then began to research the hormonal changes during pregnancy.  The most striking change is a ten-fold increase in the ovarian hormone called relaxin.  This finding is consistent with the fact that many fibromyalgia patients have their first symptoms after removal of the ovaries or after menopause.  Both of these conditions greatly reduce relaxin levels - a problem not addressed by the usual hormone therapies.  Further research revealed that 70% of female patients experience dramatic improvement when relaxin supplementation is used.  Only 30% of male patients experience this improvement."

New study proves that pain is not a symptom of osteoarthritis, pain causes arthritis
"Pain is more than a symptom of osteoarthritis, it is an inherent and damaging part of the disease itself, according to a study published September 29* in the journal Arthritis and Rheumatism.

The study revealed that pain signals originating in arthritic joints, and the biochemical processing of those signals as they reach the spinal cord, worsen and expand arthritis. In addition, researchers found that nerve pathways carrying pain signals transfer inflammation from arthritic joints to the spine and back again, causing disease at both ends.

Technically, pain is a patient's conscious realization of discomfort. Before that can happen, however, information must be carried along nerve cell pathways from say an injured knee to the pain processing centers in dorsal horns of the spinal cord, a process called nociception. The current study provides strong evidence that two-way, nociceptive "crosstalk" may:

    • First enable joint arthritis to transmit inflammation into the spinal cord and brain,

    • And then to spread through the central nervous system (CNS) from one joint to another.

Furthermore, if joint arthritis can cause neuro-inflammation, it could have a role in conditions like Alzheimer's disease, dementia and multiple sclerosis."

"Make no mistake neurotransmitters in the body come from only one source. The amino acids, vitamins, and mineral we eat are converted to neurotransmitters. Eat a diet deficient in these things and you will have a neurotransmitter deficiency. The following foods are serotonin-rich:  avocado, banana, red plum, tomatoes, pineapples, eggplants, walnuts, and possibly coffee.

swishing cold-pressed vegetable oil in the mouth. The healing process is

The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It

    Drugmakers "Blackmail the Public"

Many Americans have wondered why prescription drugs have become so expensive while advertising for those drugs seems to grow exponentially.

Author Marica Angell says her research shows their huge influence over Congress, the FDA, and doctors is harming Americans
"After she stepped down in June, 2000, as interim editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Dr. Marcia Angell decided to write a book about biases in clinical trials. As she was doing her research and writing, she realized that "all roads led back to drug companies." Angell decided there was a bigger story to tell -- about the vast influence the pharmaceutical industry has over how medicine is practiced today."

Reported by Susan Aldridge, PhD, medical journalist People who have sleep apnea have a higher than average chance of having diabetes, say researchers in France.

Although many of the participants were overweight, this does not provide a complete explanation of the link between sleep apnea and diabetes. The researchers think that the fall in oxygen levels in the blood that occurs when breathing stops somehow disturbs glucose metabolism.

According to research from the University of Illinois at Chicago, patients with type 2 diabetes who also have sleep apnea can lower glucose levels with the help of CPAP therapy. Study participants who underwent CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure device) therapy for at least four hours daily experienced significant reduction in glucose levels. "With such clear evidence for the high risk of sleep apnea among patients with type 2 diabetes, it is encouraging that our data show patients can achieve better control of their glucose levels with CPAP therapy," said Dr. James Herdegen, author of the study, which was published in the Feb. 28 Archives of Internal Medicine.

Subject: {CO-CURE] MED: Supplements - Melatonin adverse effects warning

I would like to share the following link with regards to the supplement Melatonin

    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-melatonin.html

It was suggested to me by a physician to take 3 mg Melatonin at night to help with falling asleep. I followed his advice, after all there had been research into it's effects on jet lag. I was impressed by it's effectiveness in getting me to fall asleep within 30 minutes of taking a tablet. Getting out of bed the next day was another story altogether, but manageable.

I am hesitant swallowing anything without proven benefit and have had my experiences with new and off-label therapies. I kept searching for articles on the supplement's adverse effects. As a dietitian this was something I just had to know. However as I felt better during the day I took a gamble.

Over time I gained weight, was always hungry, developed hyperinsulinaemia and impaired glucose tolerance and lots of other associated problems. then I came across this article and the penny dropped and I stopped Melatonin.

I had been monitoring my blood glucose levels meticulously and post melatonin they returned to normal.

Needless to say, Melatonin's adverse effects compound the already impaired glucose tolerance of CFS sufferers. When taken in conjunction with other drugs such as tricyclic antidepressants may multiply these adverse effects. These adverse effects have now been documented.

The adverse effects of many novel and off-label drug and supplement therapies for CFS symptoms are not well researched in CFS sufferers.

Drug-nutrient interactions are even less publicised.

If you are taking melatonin please read the article and references and monitor yourself carefully.

TORONTO - Sleep apnea in women may be different from that in men.
An analysis of questionnaire responses from more than 2,700 patients seen at a sleep laboratory showed that men were more likely to have traditional apnea symptoms, such as snoring, while women were more likely to report sleep disturbances, longer sleep latency, and greater difficulty sleeping, Jessica J. Runyon reported at the annual American Lung Association/American Thoracic Society International Conference.

TORONTO -- Obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome face an increased risk of sleep apnea and should be asked about symptoms of the disorder, Dr. Robert B. Fogel said at the annual American Lung Association/American Thoracic Society International Conference.

Obstructive sleep apnea in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may be pathophysiologically related to their androgen excess, speculated Dr. Fogel, adding that androgens could affect the airway anatomy pharyngeal muscle function, and ventilatory control in these women.

In turn, obstructive sleep apnea could contribute to the insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk associated with PCOS, said Dr. Fogel, a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

    Thyroid

    By David Brownstein M.D.
     Overcoming Thyroid Disorders

"Overcoming Thyroid Disorders" by Dr. David Brownstein is a ground-breaking book about how a holistic program can be used to treat Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's Disease, Graves" Disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and many other conditions. This book will show you how a natural treatment program consisting of: natural thyroid hormone, other natural hormones, vitamins, minerals, diet modifications and detoxification can successfully treat many thyriod and other conditions.

Dr. Brownstein illustrates the tremendous success he has had with his holistic treatment program by including over 30 actual case studies from his practice. This book provides hope to those who suffer from thyroid problems because it shows how a natural, holistic prgram can be used to overcome these chronic conditions.

Transdermal Iodine Therapy (for hypothyroid treatment)

Transdermal iodine may boost a low body temperature, even if your thyroid tests indicate your thyroid is "normal".

Before starting this procedure it is a good idea to record your basal temperature as a baseline and then again after a couple of months.

Daub regular first-aid type iodine on the soft tissue on lower belly after your shower and then don't bathe again for 24 hours. The iodine will wash off if done prior to bathing.  Dimension of the stain should be approximately 3 inches square.  Do not paint over and over the stain -- just do one layer. Your body will absorb the iodine.  If you have enough iodine in your system already, 24 hours after you first apply it, you'll still see a faint yellow stain on your skin.  But if you are deficient in iodine, then you'll absorb it faster and the stain will completely disappear.  Often the stain can be gone in just 2 or 3 hours.  Keep checking and reapply if it has been absorbed.  As the body's need is addressed the stain will last on the skin longer and longer each time.  When the stain is still faintly visible for the 24 hours your body's needs have been met for the time being.  Wait 4 weeks and repeat the same process again.  If you do this "as directed", it's very safe but, of course, having the support of your health care professional never hurts any situation.

"the supposed test for iodine deficency by painting a few drops of intense iodine solution on the skin and seeing how long it takes to disappear is crazy, the mechanism is diffusion and the rate of disappearance does not relate to body stores"

a post by laurie on the yahoo adult metal chelation board (19th august 2005)

"I don't agree with the iodine test either. I had the skin painting iodine test done and I could still see the iodine one week later indicating no need for iodine. My urine test indicated I was low in iodine though. I don't believe either of the tests."

Excerpt: "According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), what was normal last year, thyroid-wise, may now be abnormal.

According to the AACE, doctors have typically been basing their diagnoses on the "normal" range for the TSH test. The typical normal levels at most laboratories has fallen in the 0.5 to 5.0 range.

The new guidelines narrow the range for acceptable thyroid function, and the AACE is now encouraging doctors to consider thyroid treatment for patients who test the target TSH level of 0.3 to 3.04, a far narrower range. AACE believes the new range will result in proper diagnosis for millions of Americans who suffer from a mild thyroid disorder, but have gone untreated until now."

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause: The Breakthrough Book on Natural Progesterone
by John R. Lee, Virginia Hopkins

Women considering hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopause symptoms and health benefits should read this controversial, provocative book first. "Advertising and research dollars are spent trying to convince women that estrogen will cure everything from heart disease to Alzheimer's," writes John R. Lee, M.D., "but there is scant evidence for any of these claims and reams of evidence that synthetic estrogens are highly toxic and carcinogenic." Lee has studied the research and concludes that estrogen is not the magic bullet for protection against heart disease and osteoporosis, nor does it retard aging. Natural progesterone, instead, puts postmenopausal women's hormones in balance, says Lee.

Red wine can ease your sore joints

By Pat Hagan, Mail 15:08pm 29th November 2005

"Red wine could hold the secret to repairing joint damage caused by osteoarthritis, according to the latest research looking at the benefits of the drink.

Scientists have found that resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant found in certain types of grape, appears to halt the damage done to cartilage - the gristle-like substance that covers the ends of bones in a joint - and speed up recovery.

During laboratory experiments, tissue was taken from patients undergoing knee replacement surgery and cells were exposed to small doses of resveratrol."

    Young Again Nutrients

    Young Again Resvert

(Look for Resvert product link on left side of Young Again web site) Serving Size: One Capsule twice a day with meals

Ingredient: Trans-Resveratrol [25 mg] Proanthrocyanidins ]100 mg] Quercetin (as Quercetin dihydrate) [100 mg]

"In the new study into resveratrol's effects on osteoarthritis, tiny samples of cartilage taken from damaged knee joints were combined with the antioxidant compound.

The results showed it slashed production of chemicals that cause inflammation in the joints by between 50 and 90 per cent.

It also stimulated production of key proteins that make up an important part of the connective tissue in the joints. "

Antibiotic Slows Joint Damage in Knees
But it did not relieve pain of osteoarthritis, study found

"THURSDAY, July 7 (HealthDay News) -- The tetracycline antibiotic doxycycline may slow the progression of joint damage in people with knee osteoarthritis, researchers report in the July issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism .

The study included 431 overweight women with moderate osteoarthritis in one knee who were randomly assigned to receive either 100 milligrams of doxycycline or a placebo twice a day for 30 months.

After 16 months of treatment, the people in the doxycycline group had 40 percent less mean loss of joint space within the diseased knee than those in the placebo group. After 30 months, it was 33 percent less.

However, even though it slowed disease progression, doxycycline did not reduce the severity of joint pain. The study also found that doxycycline seemed to have no effect on joint space narrowing or pain in the relatively disease-free knees of the women.

The study authors concluded that doxycycline did show benefits in slowing the rate of joint space narrowing in knees with established osteoarthritis. However, further research is needed to determine whether the drug had any value in the early treatment or management of osteoarthritis symptoms."

    Osteoporosis

    National Osteoporosis Foundation

"Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks. These broken bones, also known as fractures, occur typically in the hip, spine, and wrist.

Any bone can be affected, but of special concern are fractures of the hip and spine. A hip fracture almost always requires hospitalization and major surgery. It can impair a person's ability to walk unassisted and may cause prolonged or permanent disability or even death. Spinal or vertebral fractures also have serious consequences, including loss of height, severe back pain, and deformity."

    Osteoporosis Australia

"Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become fragile and brittle, leading to a higher risk of fractures (breaks or cracks) than normal bone. Osteoporosis occurs when bones lose minerals such as calcium, and the body cannot replace these minerals fast enough to keep the bones healthy. As a result, bones become thinner and less dense. Osteoporosis is almost as common as high blood pressure, and is more common than high cholesterol. Any bone can be affected by osteoporosis, but the most common sites are bones in the hip, spine, wrist, ribs, pelvis and upper arm. Osteoporosis has no signs or symptoms usually until a fracture occurs - this is why osteoporosis is often called a silent disease. Fractures due to osteoporosis are known as osteoporotic fractures. These can lead to changes in posture (eg developing a stoop or Dowager's hump in your back), muscle weakness, loss of height and deformity of the area affected. Fractures can lead to long-term pain and disability, loss of independence, and may even contribute to premature death."

    Magnesium For Life

"To say that magnesium is important in health and medicine is to underestimate the case for it is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. Mg is extremely important for the metabolism of Ca, K, P, Zn, Cu, Fe, Na, Pb, Cd, HCl, acetylcholine, and nitric oxide (NO), for many enzymes, for the intracellular homeostasis and for activation of thiamine and therefore, for a very wide gamut of critical body functions. Magnesium is a particularly crucial element for mediating the vital functions of the nervous and endocrine systems; it helps maintain normal muscle and nerve functions, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. In the nucleus more than half the magnesium is closely associated with nucleic acids and mononucleotides. Magnesium is necessary for the physical integrity of the double helix of DNA, which carries genetic information and the code for specific proteins.

Enzymes are protein molecules that stimulate every chemical reaction in the body. Magnesium is required to make hundreds of these enzymes work." Dr. Carolyn Dean

    Transdermal Magnesium Therapy

    From the Publisher
The rise in chronic illness and disease as associated with the concurrent rise in routine use of, and exposure to toxins and pathogens, is well documented. In fact, chronic illness and disease has become an accepted, and even expected eventuality of modern living. What has not been well documented is the body's natural ability to maintain, and even restore its health, IF properly nourished... not so much with popular foods (which are themselves nutritionally compromised), but with minerals. Magnesium is one of the most important minerals to human health, but also one of the least publicized.

Mark Sircus has researched the research on magnesium, and found hundreds of cases that prove its critical role in the maintenance of our health.

"According to Dr. Norman Shealy oral magnesium supplementation takes between 6 to 12 months to restore intracellular levels whereas a transdermally applied magnesium lotion with 25% magnesium chloride restores intracellular levels within 4 to 6 weeks. Some nutritional experts now believe that 750 milligrams of magnesium supplement per day is a more physiologic[iv] recommendation but to take that much orally might upset the digestive system, cause diarrhea, and end up not being properly absorbed.

Good sources of magnesium include whole grains, nuts, peanut butter, cottonseed, peanut and soybean flours, green leafy vegetables and spices. It's better to get magnesium from foods rather than supplements because high doses have a laxative effect--the body's way of preventing toxic levels. But unfortunately we have to come to terms with the fact that the food values of magnesium have been dropping over the last fifty years making it extremely difficult to receive all we need from foods. The International Medical Veritas Association recommends a system of transdermal magnesium therapy that bypasses the problems evident with oral magnesium supplementation. Dr Rath Health Foundation

The Foundation of Cellular Health:  "Good and poor health is determined at the level of the millions of cells making up the human body. Vitamins, amino acids and trace elements are needed for the thousands of biochemical reactions taking place in each cell and chronic deficiency of these nutrients is the most frequent cause of cellular dysfunction.

Replenishing these cells with essential nutrients supports their bioenergy production and leads to optimal health. However, without adequate supplementation, the normal functioning of cells will eventually become impaired, resulting in poor health.

Dr Rath’s discoveries reveal that the millions of cells in the body require nutritional support to function normally. Cellular Health is based on nutrient synergy and the optimal daily intake of vitamins and other essential nutrients needed to help maintain good health."

    Natural Eradication of Cardiovascular Disease:

Why Animals Don't Get Heart Attacks but People Do, Fourth Revised Edition

    by Matthias Rath

In Why Animals Don?t Get Heart Attacks, But People Do, Matthias Rath, M.D., an internationally respected cardiovascular researcher, asserts that high cholesterol is not the actual cause of heart disease. Bears, for example, have average cholesterol levels of 400 milligrams per deciliter of blood, but they don?t suffer heart attacks. Why? According to Dr. Rath, it is because bears produce large amounts of vitamin C, which optimizes collagen production and ensures maximum stability of their artery walls.

"Conventional medicine is largely confined to treating the symptoms of this disease. Calcium antagonists, beta-blockers, nitrates and other drugs are prescribed to alleviate angina pain. Surgical procedures (angioplasty and bypass surgery) are applied to improve blood flow mechanically. Rarely does conventional medicine target the underlying problem: the instability of the vascular wall, which triggers the development of atherosclerotic deposits.

Cellular Medicine provides a breakthrough in our understanding of the underlying causes of these conditions and leads to the effective prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease. The primary cause of coronary heart disease and other forms of atherosclerotic disease is a chronic deficiency of vitamins and other essential nutrients in millions of vascular wall cells. This leads to the instability of the vascular walls, lesions and cracks, atherosclerotic deposits and, eventually, heart attacks or strokes. Since the primary cause of cardiovascular disease is a deficiency of essential nutrients in the vascular wall, the daily optimum intake of these essential nutrients is the primary measure to prevent atherosclerosis and help repair artery wall damage."

    The Cause Of Degenerative Disease

"All enerative disease begins as a relatively acid condition in the tissues of the body. These tissues become oxidized, diseased and old.

Pleomorphic organisms come out of this acid environment, from elements in the blood in order to clean up these old, diseased, tissues. Bacteria are being found in the diseased tissues of all chronic, degenerative diseases. The Atlantic Monthly, A New Germ Theory by Judith Hooper, February 1999.) These bacteria are there as a result, not the cause. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) was wrong, these organisms are not caught from the outside, they come from within.

Pleomorphism is a concept discovered in the early 1800s. Pleomorphic organisms are micro-organisms that change form (pleo-change, morph-form), viral into bacterial into fungal forms and back again. All micro-organisms change form. Grown in a hospital laboratory, under exactly the same growing conditions, a streptococcus is always a streptococcus but change something, the pH of the growth medium for example and that strep germ will change form into something else, some other micro-organism.

These germs come from inside the body, from "tiny dots" that you can see in the blood of any living thing, with any microscope. All micro-organisms, all living things come from these "tiny dots" and all living things turn back into these "tiny dots".

These "tiny dots" themselves, never die. The cell is not the smallest living thing, these "little dots" are. These "tiny dots" are called Protits in German and Somatides in French. There isn't even a name for them in the English language. Isn't that strange?"

    Continue on to: Pleomorphism

"Germs, all microorganisms, (viruses, bacteria, fungi and everything in-between) are the result, not the cause of disease!

    Louis Pasteur was wrong!
His idea of the bacterial cause of disease was wrong!

If "germs" are there as a result, not a cause,
then to treat the resultant germs with antibiotics is in theory and in fact, wrong!
This basic misconception about disease affects all aspects of medicine.
This is why this is a "new"... biology.

Louis Pasteur is said to have said on his deathbed that really he had been wrong about his "Germ Theory" of disease. He said then, in so many words, that, it is not the germ that is the problem, it is the internal environment, the internal milieu that allowed the germ to develop in the first place that is the problem."

"There are many experimental treatments for Lyme Disease and co-infections. This information is not an endorsement of any particular treatment or product or a guarantee of effectiveness or safety. Use at your own risk. We list this information here as a resource for those looking for help in finding alternative lyme disease treatments.

If you have just recently been infected, you have the best chance of ridding yourself of lyme and co-infections permanently by getting appropriate treatment through an LLMD (lyme literate Medical Doctor). The treatment typically given is high dose antibiotics. Co-infections are tested for and treated which gives one a better chance of beating lyme.

If you are a chronic lyme sufferer, in my opinion, you will get the best treatment for your illness through an LLMD (lyme literate Medical Doctor). Unfortunately, many who have been sick for a long time do not have the financial resources to afford treatment through an LLMD which is why this information is provided.

There are a number of factors that affect chronic lyme disease patients and their ability to heal. Biotoxins caused by die-off of bacteria (borrelia and possibly babesia), metal toxicity and co-infections all complicate healing. You will find information about all of these issues in some of the articles listed. here.

In the last decade the majority of outcome-oriented physicians observed a major shift: we realized that it was neither the lack of vitamins or growth hormone that made our patients ill. We discovered that toxicity and chronic infections were most often at the core of the client’s suffering. We watched the discussion, which infection may be the primary one: mycoplasma, stealth viruses, HHV-6, trichomonas, Chlamydia pneumoniae, leptospirosis, mutated strep, or what else?

The new kid on the block is Borrelia Burgdorferi (Bb) and some of us have looked at it for a long time as possibly the bug that opens the door for all the other infections to enter the system. Lyme disease has become a buzzword in the alternative medical field. Since none of the recommended treatments are specific to either one of the microbes, we can never assume that we really know what we treated once a patient has recovered.

Bob Joy  "The Cure" - guai, whey and leaky gut syndrome

"A simple treatment for fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), chronic lyme disease (LD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gulf war syndrome (GWS), multiple chemical sensitivities syndrome (MCS).  To my knowledge this web site is the only place in the world which brings the three treatments together in a simplified clinically orientated fashion for the patient.    I plan on keeping the three treatments separate because they are separate in the literature and in the eyes of most patients.  This will keep the confusion to the patient to a minimum except that if a patient has one label they must remember that they have the condition, regardless of the applied label.  If you are new to these treatments, I suggest you start with the whey first simply because it is much simpler than guai." - Bob Joy

    Marshall Protocol

"Lyme and borreliosis are both caused by the CWD bacteria called a borrelia. Lyme, by definition of the US's CDC (Center for Disease Control), is caused by the borrelia that was found around Old Lyme and Lyme, Conn. It was named borrelia burgdorferi after the man who discovered it, Dr. Willy Burgdorfi, Phd, a micro-biologist. It was further named borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, a sub-species of the family of borrelia, Bb sensu lato.

There are at least 82 strains of Bb sensu stricto in the US. There are over 100 strains of BB sensu lato in the US alone....I understand over 300 worldwide. The medical name should have been used for the disease, borreliosis. But it sure is easier to say Lyme, and the media loved that name for the "new" disease that was "discovered" by two mothers in about 1975, but which really goes back to 1895 or so in the US, and back further in Europe.

Borreliosis is the medical name for a disease in which any borrelia is involved. The world outside of the US uses borreliosis. The folks on the East Coast particularly like to use, and almost insist on using the term "Lyme" for all borrelioses. "...ses" is the plural. "

Late and Chronic lyme Disease: Symptom Overlap with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia - ImmuneSupport.com - 05-15-2002 - By Sam Donta,M.D.

"That chronic lyme Disease actually exists, and is likely the most common form of the disease, is supported by epidemiologic studies demonstrating that 30-50-% of treated and untreated patients go on to develop a multisymptom disorder typical of, and indistinguishable from, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue (1, 28)"

Biochemistry of Lyme disease: Borrelia burgdorferi spirochete/cyst.

From: Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients | Date: 2/1/2006 | Author: Allen, Henry W.

"Abstract -- It has been noted that many of the symptoms of Lyme disease involve the nervous system. It was shown that the spirochete produces a toxin that disrupts normal nerve function. Through the use of DNA manipulations and a database of known protein toxin DNA sequences, a match was made with a selected Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) gene and a specific toxin in the database. Protein generated from this cloned Bb gene was examined biochemically and found to have characteristics similar to that of botulinum, the toxin of Clostridium botulinum, a zinc endoproteinase. The action of botulinum (as well as the toxin from the Lyme spirochete) is to prevent, through its action as a specific proteolytic enzyme, the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine."

"One of the known actions of Bb toxin is to diminish the release and availability of acetylcholine. This substance is biosynthesized by the body as required in nerve activation and transmission. Supplementation by the precursors of acetylcholine synthesis has been shown to benefit Lyme patients"

    How Nicotine Works

"Each neurotransmitter has its own specific family of receptors. Nicotine works by docking to a subset of receptors that bind the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter that (depending on what region of the brain a neuron is in):

Delivers signals from your brain to your muscles

Controls basic functions like your energy level, the beating of your heart and how you breathe

Acts as a "traffic cop" overseeing the flow of information in your brain

Plays a role in learning and memory"

    The Science of Salt/C

"22 – Salt/C may be a natural form of the ‘Marshall Protocol’ in which two medications are used to address infected blood cells. The MP uses an anti-inflammatory drug (Benicar) and a mild abx like Minocycline. Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties and may act somewhat like the Benicar and salt is a known broad-spectrum anti-microbial (see 21 above) and may act like Minocycline."

    Cautions about Salt/C

"A number of reports of serious negative reactions to trials of salt/c have been appeared recently, prompting me to carefully re-evaluate safety issues related to the protocol. Although I had some worrysome symptoms myself initially on salt/c, including some heart palpitations, chest pain, occasional upper left arm pain and kidney area pain, most of that went away when I lowered my dose, or when I took supplements to support each of those systems. I had attributed those events to the herx response so often mentioned in the salt/c forums and although I was worried about the symptoms from time to time, the benefits from salt/c were often substantial and I believed the idea that these were normal herx symptoms. However, after receiving several reports of serious reactions to salt/c, I decided to do some homework. And what I found has changed my views of salt/c significantly."

Study Supports Bacterial Cause for Crohn's
Finds infectious agent in patients with intestinal condition
    By Ed Edelson

    "HealthDay Reporter
THURSDAY, Sept. 16 (HealthDayNews) -- Scientists say they have new evidence to support the belief that Crohn's disease, an irritable bowel condition that affects a half-million Americans, has a bacterial origin."

    Mycoplasma's: the unsuspected invader

Excerpt from: Curcumin May Be an Effective Therapy for Inflammatory Bowel Disease
    ImmuneSupport.com -- 08-27-2003
"Curcumin is a component of the spice turmeric (Curcuma longa) used in curries and mustard, whose anti-inflammatory properties have been recognized for years. These effects are related, in part, to inhibition of the activities of the cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, and NF- B in several cell systems. Furthermore, its role in the attenuation of colonic cancer in animal models has also been established."

    Heavy Metal Toxicity

Amino Acids For Heavy Metal Removal And Much More
"People with health issues have one thing in common: Almost all of them have some degree of digestive failure. One result is that there is a lack of free amino acids. Even if people eat steak three times a day, there is protein starvation at the level of the individual free amino acids."

"Even supplementation of stomach acid and enzymes usually does not enable the body to make enough free amino acids. So necessary materials cannot be produced. One compound that is necessary for health in a polluted world is metallothionein.

The body uses metallothionein to carry away mercury and other toxic metals. But the body cannot make this material if there is a shortage of free amino acids. At DoctorVickery.com  there are more charts showing toxic metal removal using a product called Platinum Plus Essential Amino Acids. Each patient was also required to take a multivitamin-mineral product and 1/4 teaspoon of natural salt ( such as Real Salt or Celtic salt) in water daily. Those who did not take in enough salt failed to make good progress."
