the original, international Guai-Support Network offers access to
'self-help' health education and support. Discussion revolves
around all renditions of the guaifenesin treatment for FMS, CFS, CFIDS,
ME, IBS, EDS, IC, MCS, NMH, RLS, VV, MVP, MPS along with
many other health issues such as HG,
IR, reflux, Thyroid, Toxicity, etc., reference to other theories about
FMS. Other health conditions & treatment possibilities are
referenced here and discussed under appropriate topic in the mailing
list. Members have access to extensive archives.

POLICY: All decisions
regarding list management are the sole responsibility of the ListOwner Tesa

WELCOME TO THE LIST
.
I hope you enjoy your stay here and that it is of benefit to you in
your path to wellness. ListOwner: Tesa Marcon
The list is known as the GG (Guai Group) thus the logo
[GG] (since abbreviations omit hyphenated words) & the subscribers known endearingly
as Guais.
(Note 2002: not to be
confused with the 'newer/younger' group who elected to utilise this name.)
Continued subscription to this list is at the sole discretion of the ListOwner and your
choice to remain constitutes agreement by you to abide by these g/lines.
You can be removed for unacceptable behaviour.
There are detractors of
the Guaifenesin Protocol and you will find them on most other FMS forums. This
forum is a SAFE
HAVEN for those who genuinely want information to help them make
a decision or who have already chosen to follow a Guaifenesin protocol.
Legitimate questions and discussion very welcome.
It is not expected that you will remember all
the rules and guidelines. I realize this is a very long document but that is
because it is a complete reference sheet to cover the details of all the rules, how to get
treatment info, what to do if having mailing problems, and more. It is to be
used in conjunction with the more concise Brief
Posting-tips, and its Last
Minute CheckList (the latter shouldbe used till you are adept at posting. Make use of the
Contents
Directory to
access the section you need at a given time (see Navigating
the Guidelines)
.
Only members can read the archives but anyone can sign on to read them and then
sign off again so don't write anything you aren't prepared to let the world at
large see. Don’t utilize the archives for personal gain without the
express and written permission of the ListOwner and the author of messages.
Members who post to this list retain their copyright but grant a non-exclusive
license to the ListOwner to forward any message posted here and their letters
may be quoted on the list by other members . They also grant the list owner
permission to maintain an archive (i.e. approve the archiving of list messages)
and utilize their messages on the web site to help visitors and members to the
site (anonymity will be maintained unless permission is given to use name).
Posts entered in to the archives will not be removed. See

messages - They arrive under "ALL" in the subject line.
It is the responsibility of all subscribers
to access help through these options so as to make their list experience more
enjoyable:
The Brief Posting Tips LastMinute CheckList section
is a quick way to check if your messages are formatted in the best way to
serve your needs as well as your fellow members;
refer to the 'troubleshooting'
section when problems arise with your mail;
ask our posting mentor
Wendy for help and/or clarification for any problem at all;
read the GG web site and archives for Treatment
information and/or write to the list;
manipulate your subscription
options to suit you best, asking Wendyfor help if/when needed;
We are here to serve but cannot do so
optimally if, when you have problems, you don't seek further help from us.
The list is a gift not a right.
Given that you
accept it, as is evidenced by your continued subscription, I appreciate that you do so
graciously. :-)

Review Status The purpose of review is not
punishment. It is a necessary tool while learning to post. It is an
opportunity for us to help you learn to post in a way that serves you and other
members best. It may occasionally be used to protect the
membership from disruption but that has only ever been a very rare occurrence.
New members are automatically set to
review in order to ascertain that they are complying with the guidelines.
Review
status is temporary till the new subscriber has demonstrated they can post.
When you are on review you will receive an
automatic message to tell you your email has been submitted to a moderator, I.E.
"Your message dated .......... with subject ".........." has been submitted
to the moderator of the GUAI-SUPPORT list:....etc...."
This is normal and can be ignored. When the moderator has looked over your
message and okays it, it will be sent to everyone who receives the TKW that you
put in the Subject line. If the moderator thinks alterations need to be
made, she will send you an email telling you what needs to be done and how to
resubmit. It contains the wording 'RESUBMIT REQUEST' in the subject line.
This is not a "reprimand" from the moderator, but an opportunity to educate.
If you don't understand what is needed simply choose 'reply' and ask for further
clarification. State exactly what it is you don't understand. We are here
to help you so we expect these questions.
If you post incorrectly after being taken off review you may
receive a gentle reminder notice to help with future posting.
Occasionally, if you are having a lot of trouble with posting you might be set
back to REVIEW just so we can help you further.
While on REVIEW there is sometimes a delay before you see your mail on the list.
Your mail is NEVER ignored. If it doesn't reach the list and you don't
receive a personal response from a moderator please let our moderator and
posting mentor Wendy
know.
Please check
the origin of an email before replying to the list. If a person has replied
both to you directly and posted to the list, you will receive two copies of that
post. The copy sent directly to you must be considered private correspondence
until such time as you see an identical post appear on the list.
To check the status of an email, look at
the "To:" line in the email - if it has your address as well as the list's
address, then this particular email is a private copy. This becomes important
when the sender is on review as the post may or may not go through to the list,
or be edited first, thus causing a delay and changes. Wait for the list copy to
arrive in your mail box before posting a reply to the list. Replying to the list
before seeing the message arrive there, will only confuse other members who have
not yet seen the original message.

5.
Posting Parameters (how to post to the list) Posting and/or receiving messages
are subject to the rules and guidelines as determined by the ListOwner. Some or
all messages from a subscriber may be declined for ANY reason by the ListOwner.
It may be suggested that one edit their message to keep within the parameters of
the list's mission, however, the decision to resubmit or not is entirely up to
the subscriber.
*Note: The GG List isn't designed to meet the needs of the whole FMS community,
only those interested in, or following, the Guaifenesin protocol. You can
however discuss other research and treatments under the FMS topic and other
health issues under the PLUS topic so long as the content of your message stays
within the mission of the list and the 'safe haven' policy isn't violated. The list is set to reply to
(original) sender
when you choose "REPLY".
If you wish to reply to
the Guai-Support list you need to choose "REPLY TO ALL" on your message menu.
"REPLY TO ALL" will also cause a reply to go to the original sender twice.
Please delete the
original sender's address to save
them from receiving two pieces of mail and to forestall a confusing chain of
events that can be set off if either of you are set to review (see note
below). Deleting the original address is easy to do. Once you've chosen
'Reply To All' just select the original sender's address and press delete,
leaving only the List address in the "To" field. Sometimes
you might have to switch the list addy to the TO field as at times it is in the
CC field.
Don't delete the original addy if you are changing the subject line to a new topic/thread if you are
concerned the original sender will not receive the topic you are switching to
(see section
8)
NOTE:
If you do not omit the original sender's addy from your address field when
replying to the list it can set off a confusing chain of events, i.e. IF your
letter is held up via moderation while waiting for you to resubmit your letter
the person you also responded to privately may respond to the list and thus, the
members will be mightily confused having not been able to follow the 'back list'
discussion. IF both of you are still set to review, and depending on how
long this goes on, it can be a time consuming and frustrating ordeal for both
you and the moderator.
Please don't include any addresses in the Cc field
of your message. If you want non-list members to see your message you can
forward it to them rather than copying them. It is much more courteous to
them anyway since if they chose 'reply to all' with replying they would receive
a reject message from the ListServ.
It will save archive space if you don't leave
unnecessary empty space in your messages (normal paragraphs not included). An empty line takes up archive space.....it reads like
typed characters so please start your messages at the topmost portion of your window and
don't leave quote marks down the side of your messages with no typing alongside them e.g.
>
>
>
which is caused by hard returns.
>It's ok to leave them beside your quoting of course.
Double & triple spaces are not necessary.
Less will do.
Use it when asking
questions or giving reports that will serve you or the other members. Constantly
repeated information can really weigh the archives down so use it discriminately
please Guais. Although it takes a
little more effort, if someone is curious about your history and you haven't
posted it on a particular message, they can find your signature on previous
messages in the archives.
Please
do not post attachments to
the list. Files can contain viruses, can clog up mailboxes, can slow down the processing of other mail and can even
crash some computers. Also some people have to pay by the byte for their Internet access.
You may offer attachments, and any other items you wish to share (refer to topic info
below), on the list and suggest that list members email you privately for a copy.
Do not send virus warnings to
the list as oftentimes the
warning is a hoax and can cause people to remove legitimate files from their
computer.
Please check the information in our virus FAQ and if concerned
and/or needing help please send information to Wendy.
Wendy posts regular and
authentic virus warnings to the list. Remember if you download and execute a program from any source, be
it received via email, FTP or hyperlink you run a potential risk of acquiring a virus.
Always clean up your mail by
eliminating mail headers in the
body of email messages
(ListServ can reject them because they can cause mail loops). A header is
the top of your email message that contains the address, FROM and TO plus CC
fields along with the path the email took to reach you. If you fwd a
message the header will be left in (best not to forward message because there is
extra work in cleaning them up and ensuring your message reaches its topic
destination.
Please
post URLs/LINKS rather than whole information about
anything that can be found on the net.
Do not
solicit the membership for any
purpose outside our agenda. Please keep in mind that all messages must be suitable for an International
list dedicated to supporting FMS sufferers following a Guaifenesin protocol.
Our membership is diverse; made up of
people of all religions, political persuasions and belief systems.
Spiritual
messages of support or requests/offers for any type of energy healing, prayer, etc., may go to OTHER topic. All spiritual and /or religious
denominations/practices/modalities may use this subject line.
Do not send chain letters (where you prevail on members to fwd the letter to
others) no matter how genuine the message may be. We do have a Human Interest page on the
web site however and you can submit items to if you wish.
Privacy a critical issue Please don't forward messages to other lists or people without the writer's
express permission.
Don't cross post messages to several lists (don't CC several lists).
Don't forward messages from other lists or people to the GG please. Only subscribers to the
Guai-Support list can post to it.
Do not refer to, respond to,
or quote someone's private messages to the list without their
permission.
Do not send another member's message
to the list for them
because by doing that they evade the review process & learning to post. If
someone wants to ask specific questions about posting our posting mentor
will gladly help them. Also they could read Afraid to
Post which will perhaps put things in perspective. Extenuating circumstances need to be addressed to me. If someone
hasn't got a computer and needs answers then of course you can be their proxy.
If your post is anything out of
the ordinary and you are the least unsure of its suitability to the list please send
it to me for consideration first. I am quite happy to help you get your information to
members if it may be beneficial to them - please discuss unique items with me and I'll
decide the way the information is given or sought. Please request permission to post to
the ALL (admin) topic.
If you are writing a long
letter please use clear
paragraphs for those with difficulty reading.
Long letters are totally acceptable although you may need to send in parts
because our line numbers are somewhat limited to curtail the possibility of
viruses slipping through. Your Email Program should
be set to plain text
so that your
posts will be readable by all subscribers regardless of their computer and email program
so please don't use HTML or any other formatting on the List. Plain US-ASCII only e.g. - no
text/enriched - no charset="x-user-defined" - no charset="iso-8859-1
- no HTML - no attachments (invite
members to privately request it) - no winmail.dat files - no multipart/mixed - no
multipart/signed - no multipart/alternative - no multipart/related - no quoted printable
MIME encoding - no Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable - no
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 - no multi-part message in MIME format. Click herefor help to set plain US-ASCII on your system:

I know some find quoting rules annoying but without restricting them I might not
be able to keep all the archives intact.
My goal is to keep as many years
archives online as possible as they are a great source of
information. Members can read the history of any thread in the archives by inserting
the subject
line into the appropriate search box.
Don't
leave previous posts attached to the bottom of your message.
Your email program may default to quoting
the entire message (a common behavior) and sometimes this doesn't show in your mail
window so your first response as a member should be sent to yourself so you can check
that your mail settings comply with List rules.
Leaving the previous message attached at least
doubles the amount of text people read through in their email, and is especially hard on
digest subscribers, who must read the original message and then skip past it again --
often more than once -- when it is quoted in replies. Please quote no more than
10
lines. Often much less is needed to establish context.
It's not always necessary to quote - Be sure to paraphrase however if you don't
quote or refer to a particular item in your
response and don't just say "yes" or "it" or some such. Your audience
wants to understand you.. The archives can be searched for back information on a
thread (Subject line).
Please Set your email program's line lengths adequately so as not to have several lines of text where 1
or 2 lines would do (both for quoting and regular text). Your email program will
have information for setting line lengths - ask Wendy for help if you cant find
it. Forwarding messages can sometimes cause this too so please always send
fresh copies of messages to the list.
A "Header" in email vernacular refers to an information
field, i.e.: the path the message
has taken to arrive at its destination. It can be relatively small containing only your
own sender, times, path and destination information or very long if it's been forwarded
several times. It is located at the top of the email window/page.
A header in the body of your email is the usually result of *forwarding* mail to the List,
either your own or someone else's.
Please
don't post repeat posts to the List
whether it is because you wish
to simply repeat the information to other members thinking they may not have seen it or
because you sent it to the wrong topic and you are concerned it may miss many of your
desired audience. Your mail is in the archives so you can send the achive
entry information so that members can go read it there. If anyone asks you to post a repeat
you can either direct them to the archive copy (posting subject line/date) or offer to
post it out to them privately. If you think it is essential that you send
a message again you can discuss it with me (Tesa)
first.
7.
Appropriate Conduct
That includes listing your web site in
your signature or referring to the fact you sell/distribute a product when
chatting to other members privately.
SPAM:
Do not send unsolicited mail
to anyone no matter what the subject
matter (includes any information where
you might receive a financial reward or any other benefit).
Do not solicit for funds for any person
for any reason.
Run any unusual message by me first to
have it cleared.
'EXPRESSION
OF INTEREST'is designated by
the ListOwner and where it appears in a signature it denotes that the author is
responding to problems with, or questions about, a particular product or service
(including mapping) with which they are
socially or commercially connected. It is not intended to encourage or allow
promotion of products or services on the list. Once having been given permission by
the ListOwner please insert this signature, including
the link, on your letters:
'Expression
of Interest' http//www.psha-inc.com/guai-support/sf/DetailedMemberGuide.htm#ExpressionOfInterest
Any requests to operate outside this
policy (e.g., where you believe a particular product, with which you have a
connection, to be of benefit to members) must be addressed to the ListOwner.
List
members' conduct in other forums:
People are at liberty to make any statements
they wish, wherever they wish; they do not need my permission to do so. At the
same time, I work extremely hard to provide this forum and I do not wish or
expect that those who are taking what I offer will go elsewhere and malign me.
If that is your intent or desire please have the courage of your convictions and
the basic ethics to sign off first.
No Flaming: inflaming comments are not allowed and flouting of
this rule may get you set to NOPOST or removed from the list completely (depending on
severity of infraction).
No Put-downs regarding other
people's treatment choices, including the choice NOT to follow the Guaifenesin
Protocol , either in a particular way, or at all. This list is about discussing your choice and disseminating
information NOT about judging others. Remember please that there are members on this list
who haven't yet made a decision to follow the Guai protocol. Treat them with respect.
NO corrections or reprimands should be sent to a member
privately or publicly (on the list):
please write to me privately of you think a
member has given out incorrect information, or you are unhappy with the content of
any message (including perceived SPAM). If this rule isn't adhered to, it may well
be that there will be a misunderstanding and a possible, unnecessary public humiliation.
This could be emotionally damaging to anyone and more so to an innocent or naïve
subscriber. Please also treat myself and the mentors with the respect due to those
who are giving their time and expertise freely to help you. Private correspondence
with me is always the preferred method of handling all complaints/problems; it is my
responsibility, and is a kinder way to handle errors in content issues.
No comments regarding "imminent* suicidal
intentionsshould be sent to the list
or privately to members please (unless of course they invite you to talk to them about it
,but even then you should know that the average person isn't equipped to deal with such
threats). Members may become very concerned, as well as distressed, if someone posts
a message which seems somewhat precipitate & action is possible (especially if it's
connected to the information sent to the List regarding the protocol or the protocol
itself). It becomes very hard to give advice with so much bearing on ones
words.
You should also know that certain consequences *may* follow---that is a concerned person
getting involved in a way which you perhaps wouldn't approve of i.e.: internet providers
getting involved. If this happens, we cannot predict what action may be taken by
them in an effort to ensure your safety.
It is much better to talk with your family, friends and Health Care Professional in person than members of a mailing list. This isn't meant to dissuade you
from talking about how you feel just reign it in a bit and be clear that you are talking
with someone in person about any depression and that it hasn't anything to do with the
Guai protocol but is a consequence of your ill health in general.
Consequences for inappropriate behavior: REVIEW, NOPOST (which will prevent one from posting
to list until further notice), and SUSPENSION from the List are all possible consequences
for rampant and deliberate disregard of the rules, for argument, abusive and offensive
messages to me, a mentor or another member, or character
assassination in other forums of myself or any member . The consequence fits the violation.
You may approach me with request for permission to join again and I will address instances
on an individual basis.
The ListOwner, Tesa Marcon, is the sole and
final arbiter regarding the rules.
8.
E-mail Subject Lines:
All about topics, including how to use and set them +
subject keywords.
9.
How
to Access Treatment Information Before asking questions
of the other list members it is expected that participants will have first read
the information available through the various means below. This is to ensure
that people are not 'burnt out' answering the same questions repeatedly, and to
save on archive space.
It makes sense to do the reading and listen in for a few days or more.
Members please search the GG
archives for past discussions on the mailing list:
You will be asked to register a password(PW). There is no specific PW - invent
one. If you have any problems at all please see the archive help page.
If you can't find answers to your questions in the archives please don't get hung up
searching too long for your comfort - ask the List members after you've diligently tried.
If you go to "search for" or "help" on the archives search page you'll
get plenty of good instruction. Over time it will all sink in. If you are not sure of
something or how to search ask a mentor for help and advice.
If you have information not covered in the FAQs, and you think it's useful for all
Guaifenesin users to know, please send it to me, and I will consider it for the GG web
site.
10.
Subscription Renewal Probe A ListServ feature called 'Probe' has been implemented. You will receive
the 'probe' message (every 93 days). It doubles as a List Guide providing information you
may appreciate.
The "Probe" option makes subscription renewal passive rather than reactive; no
"CONFIRM listname" response is needed from you.
Please do not write to L-soft with problems.
See if this section covers your concerns and then if not please access Wendy,
our Posting Mentor,
for help. If she cannot answer your question she will ask for my
assistance.
[Note added 20 May 2004: We have had several
members write privately for assistance recently, only to find that we cannot
write back because of spam filtering on their email accounts. If you write
to us for assistance, and do not receive a reply within two days (this allows
for time zone differences and other commitments), please check your spam
filtering, and if the problem persists please consult with your ISP to determine
the source of the problem. Write again to the same person when this is
sorted, so they know it is safe to resend their reply. If you are still
having problems, consider using another method of contact, e.g., another email
address (free e-mail is available from services like Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail,
Mozilla Firefox,
etc) or through Instant Messaging (also a free service). Please be assured
that we never ignore a request for assistance, so if no reply is
forthcoming there is a problem somewhere in the line of communications.]
* Always
QUERY your account before bothering
with anything else (see below).
* * Always refer to the
guidelines if the question relates to posting or how to retrieve treatment information.
* If your
message to the list returns a message stating 'you are not authorized to send mail from
your <whateveraddyyousentitfrom@whichdomain.com> addy' please do a
query
for that
address to see if you are actually subscribed under it. You might be subscribed under
another address, in which case you will have to query all possible email
addresses you have. You can do so
either by email or web interface as per above.
* If you find yourself no longer receiving messages
you might have been removed from the list or set to NOMail due not setting
NOMAIL
and leaving an 'away from
office' type auto response.
check your subscription via QUERY, and if all is in order
check your mailbox filters
(some mailbox filters detect mass
mailings, such
as those from the Guai-Support list and see it as
SPAM then reject
it. Add the GG list, to your email
approved list and your filter or mailbox
protector
will let the mail come through)
maybe your ISP has implemented some new spam blocking and is now filtering out messages
that have a null return path. The quick test for this condition is to send one message to:
LISTSERV@COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM
with the 2 line command
THANKS
INFO GUAI-SUPPORT
You should get 2 separate responses back. YOU'RE WELCOME to the first
and information regarding Guai-Support to the
2nd.
NOT getting a response from the 2nd command (i.e. INFO GUAI-SUPPORT)
always means the problem is with the member's service and is a strong
indication of SPAM blocking technology. If you get 2 responses consistently, then it
is probably not a blocking problem.
Give the server at least a half hour to respond in case things are moving slowly.
If it looks as
though the LISTSERV may be down, i.e.
you are not receiving list mail but you are receiving other mail, do not take a
chance on clogging the system by sending "Where is everyone?" or "Is the system
down?" type messages through the lists. Instead send the command:
If the system is up, you should get the polite response:
YOU'RE WELCOME
It also indicates how slow/fast the system is
working. If the system is down, you'll get no response. Please wait patiently
for mail to resume.
As per above, if you are not receiving other mail it can also indicate
that your own ISP is down or that the free email service you are using has a
problem with mailing list configuration. You can talk to your ISP and see if you
can sort out the problem.
If you think your mail isn't making it
to the list check the current month's mail in the archives. If it is not there do a QUERY on your account
as per above.
These days, some web-based email
services (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo & there are sure to be others following soon) do
not forward a copy of your own post to you when you post, regardless of the
settings you may have at the list.
It happens with other lists besides this one, using a range of different list
programs. It is the email service, not the list software, and likely not
something that is going to be changed in a hurry. One can get used to not seeing
copies of their own posts arrive in their mail box but there are some things you
can do if you want to know that your post went through okay.
1. There is a setting you can turn on in your membership settings so that you're
sent an email to tell you when your post has been distributed - each and every
time you post. It's located under 'Acknowledgements [ACK ... Norepro]. the
ACK is for "acknowledge").
(If you want to know more
about this or other settings, please go to the
L-Soft Subscriber's Manual
and go straight to page 19.)
2. Check the
archives and look for your post there.
3. Wait for
replies to be posted, either to the list or directly to you privately. That's a
sure sign your post was received.
If you are on review, please remember that there may be a delay between sending
your post, and Tesa or Wendy (depending on who is on duty at the time) taking a
look at it, so please have a little patience.
If you have any questions or difficulties with this, please write to
Wendy privately with
the details so I can help you.
* Not clearing your mailbox and files on a regular basis can trigger a very unpleasant
string of events. Please ensure your mailbox is not full. Set yourself to
NOMail if you are going to be away from your computer to avoid being set to DIGest or
NOMail by me; this ensures that I don't have rejected mail filling my mailbox. I
have set auto-delete for bounced mail to 30 days, so if you don't sort out your mail
problems in that time you will be deleted.
If your problem was only a transient error and you begin to receive mail again before 7
days you can set yourself back to Mail. If not, and you've been deleted then you can
re-subscribe. This is not a punishment. It's just necessary to make my
job manageable and is used by all ListOwners
Some
of the free email programs are problematic
both because of the advertisements in
the signatures and the rejects they cause. You could find yourself set to
NOMail
due to my receiving loads of reject messages.
These free email
services were recommended to me. I have no personal experience with
them however but they might be worth a trial.
Gmail,
Yahoo,
Hotmail,
and
AIM
are free web-based email services. All provide free Instant Messaging
services, and provide a POP service which allows the emails to be downloaded to
your own computer if you wish (but not all offer this for free).
This one doesn't insert advertising (it can be down very occasionally for testing
upgrades). It's Novell's showcase server, running the latest of their
business-class e-mail solutions. The "WebAccess" interface is especially clean
and fast. They offer a lot larger mailboxes (10MB vs 2MB at yahoo and
hotmail) with pop3/imap access and there are no advertisements on either the
website or tagged to your e-mails.

Please follow good virus protection rules,
i.e. don't open e-mail attachments. Use virus protection programs with e-mail
scanning or use one of the free virus scanning sites.
Please don't send virus reports
to the mailing list, or write that
you've just received a virus. Check them out at some of the sites listed
in our virus info page
first. If they are legitimate and you are concerned please send Wendy
the name of the virus and, when deemed necessary, she will send appropriate
reports to the GG list. Wendy has created the virus help page on this web
site

Why Have Rules?
The rules are instituted for the
benefit of a large and diverse community of Guai'ers, who each have different
preferences. They enable all members to get what they want rather than
just a few and only if they
are abided can the list operate effectively. In fact this list's rules are
not more restrictive than many other lists; each ListOwner decides how much they
enforce their rules. I'm well aware that many members have experienced
much laxer enforcement on other lists but then again I've received many messages
from members who prefer this list because of the outcome of the stricter
enforcement of rules.
The request to check that your mail complies with
the guidelines, and the consequence of non-compliance are not intended as punitive
actions, they are merely learning tools to facilitate smooth list operation and to cut
down on a prohibitive workload (which is not restricted to merely moderating list
messages).
Quoting restrictions conserve archive space ensuring that they can be kept
on-line for as many years as possible. They also make reading the list,
particularly the digest, much easier. Having topics in place means
that people can choose particular topics in order to restrict their mail
when it is too heavy for them, and in addition, good subject keywords enable
members to filter their mail, read it or delete it without having to open to see
what it is about. Good conduct rules exist for obvious reasons.
Although many newbies are daunted by
learning the topics and how to post correctly, if one follows the Mechanics of Posting guides and then checks
their finished message against the Last Minute CheckList in theBrief
Posting Tips
guide (this one you're reading now), before
pressing SEND, posting is simplified.
Being on review
will also help you.
You can also remain a member
without posting till you feel more inclined or ask Wendy,
our posting mentor, for help when needed.
Easy does it and patience will make your GG experience very enjoyable. In
time many members appreciate that the rules are enforced.
It is not however possible to please everyone and thus I know that this very
structured mailing list will not always suit. However, please keep in mind
that this list is a gift, not a
right. If you can not accept the gift graciously, demonstrated through
uncomplaining adherence to the rules and guidelines, please sign off. If
you do choose not to stay
please know that I wish you well and that a net search will surely invoke a more
suitable forum for you.
