Michael my DH is a retired command sgt major for the united states army, so he has plenty of experience packaging provisions asap that last safely for long periods in not only warehouses but humid muggy areas, freezing cold areas, tropics and deserts. Here are his suggestions for pkging guai and the ones we use for my Caraco LA guai as well:

If the seal is not broken on a bottle, good! That is the very best form you can store guai in. If possible, take this sealed bottle and vacuum pack it in plastic with a home or commercial cooking device, like the ones demonstrated on infomercial paid programming etc. Then do it again. A third time will not hurt, either. Why? Some seals do not hold, you come back down the road and altho you did a great job it will amaze you how the seal leaked. Three seals are far more insurance if you are really intent on protecting your product.

(We have lost a lot of food that a friend put up for us by not re-sealing several times ourselves, alas.)

If you must open a sealed bottle, take smaller amounts and pkg each amount based on how long you think it will last as your body uses it. For instance, my base dose is 600 mg but I prefer to cycle higher if tolerable... So I would use one or two tablets every day, or maybe 60 tablets every month or so. I pkg my opened bottles in 2 month sets. If they last longer, great... but if humidity or other tragedies occur, I have not wasted or risked much of my share. Some ppl might choose to pack even 4 or 6 months of guai in each pkg, because they live in neutral climates etc.

Here´s how: if possible, go to a camping or outdoors or disaster/survival planning store and buy some of those anti-moisture packets that (I think...) Giselle mentioned. That was a smart idea. These packets remove moisture from the air while storing food, but they are only perhaps 50% as effective as not breaking the orig seal so toss one of these new packets in the jar before you vacuum seal. If you can not acquire these packets but have some old versions left from vitamin or medicine bottles etc., Use several of them in each pkg. They deteriorate over time and based on exposure, but some help is better than nothing.

Then, proceed to vacuum seal with up to three layers of plastic material as explained in the first example.

Store all guai in dark, not moist area as others on this list (Guai-Support) repeatedly remind you. In a "normal" not too hot or cold temperature, such as in a closet or under the bed. I keep all my packages in a water-proof large sturdy heavy plastic rubbermaid container, or tupperware etc. I do not want insects or mice curiously nibbling on the pkging to see what they might find :) do not store in the freezer or a humid area. Even if you put the lid back on your bottle
every time you use it, do not store guai in the bathroom due to humidity. Brown glass or solid colored plastic bottles are best to protect guai and any other remedy from possible sun damage, and opaque or see-through glass or plastic are most risky.

And, always check all stored provisions on a routine basis, maybe once every month or two. If a seal or other breach does occur, you will know to use that package as soon as you have finished the open supply that is currently in use.

I was tasked with reading a bookshelf of materials re Y2K survival etc., and spending $68,000 for a client in that regard. I spent at least 1 to 3 hrs per day almost everyday for 10 months accomplishing this project, and my internet suppliers became very familiar with my queries and helped as best they could. They knew I had big $$ to spend and that their honesty would be a strong referral. This is how I stored all appropriate health food and neutraceuticals, drugs for special needs children, and some foods. The extra precautions up front will possibly extend the life of your guai as well, but I think and have been advised by several sources that 3 yrs is a much more probable scenario than 5 yrs.

It is true that many but not all medications have longer safe usage windows than the expiry dates on packages. This is a commonly recognized fact when storing provisions etc. But you must research this and be cautious, because this rule changes based on each drug and each condition of storage. Beware.
